I kept telling people, before the fight, that this would turn out to be a stylistic nightmare for Cotto. His front foot, jab heavy style is going to make Pacquiao look like the greatest ever. I also thought that Cotto's style would give Floyd fits. It did. But Floyd is Floyd, he always finds a way to win.

Cotto was an easy target because of his square stance and forward lean, not because of his jab. Jab is still an effective tool and he still connected at 0:13, 0:21, 0:32, 0:37(it was the semi-hook using front hand, which makes it even more incredible that he connected). His braindead coach should have told him to stand on his back foot and throw this jab to the body as well. It would also have been nice if Cotto pivoted more to his left to escape the punishment from Pacmans left.

The first counter you learn, right cross over the jab. Second counter you learn straight right to the body under the jab. First counter you learn against a South paw, slip outside the jab, straight right down the middle. "Why don't they use the jab more"

A good jab is an incredibly useful thing, but Manny Pacquiao was uniquely talented at countering the jab. This advice would have been better against almost any other fighter than Pac Man.

Cotto has a great jab. The game plan was all fucked up. It’s hard to jab a southpaw from an orthodox stance. He should have been throwing the straight right more than anything. The right would have set up his left hook. And with southpaws you want to double up the hook. Body head. Pacquiaos speed was just too much to deal with.

Pacquiao was great at punching on the off beat. Meaning people fall into a pattern of fighting breaking, resetting themselves starting again. Manny would hit on that lull in the action catch even the best fighters.

He's predictable with the jab and he has to mix it up by either throwing different types of jabs or using feints and fakes to always keep his opponent thinking.
