THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD | (1996) | Official Trailer | 4K

Based on her acclaimed autobiography, Novalyne Price Ellis, a feisty West Texas schoolteacher has a torrid and turbulent affair with Robert. E. Howard, the great pulp writer of the 1930s. However, their conflicting personalities along with Howard's emotional baggage, including his sickly mother and absent father, puts a strain on their relationship. The two struggle to carry on the romance as Howard becomes more immersed into his stories and less connected to the real world.

This is one of the best movies I watched. The acting is top notch and they really draw you into their world portraying a dynamic complex character and mind. A highly rated film but very few know about

Ive never felt more connected to the characters...and then to find that it is a true story too...even better...and makes it that much more touching. And you could just feel the chemistry between Bob and Novalyn. So sweet of Novalyn to believe in Bob as much as she did and to have opened her heart and gave him a chance when everyone else considered him a local weirdo...I actually found Bob to appear quite intelligent and admired his way of thinking. In a way, i feel like if i were to know him in real life...something tells me i wouldnt think of him as that strange of a person as people thought of him in the 30s. To tell you the honest truth, he actually seems like someone I would probably befriend. Lol

"So Bob, tell me 'bout this Conan character you been writin'."

"Hot dang, woman! Conan's the damnedest bastard you ever saw! He's got arms thick as tree trunks. And this boy, he lives to fight. He ain't afraid of nothin'! Be they man, or beast, or GOD -- Conan will slay them all!"

"Well gol-ly, Bob! That sure does sound excitin'!"

THE HOUSE OF CAESAR

Yea- we have thought of royal robes and red.
Had purple dreams of words we uttered;
Have lived once more the moment in the brain
That stirred the multitude to shout again.
All done, all fled, and now we faint and tire-
The Feast is over and the lamps expire!

Yea- we have launched a ship on sapphire seas,
And felt the steed between the gripping knees;
Have breathed the evening when the huntsman brought
The stiffing trophy of the fevered sport-
Have crouched by rivers in the grassy meads
To watch for fish that dart amongst the weeds.
All well, all good- so hale from sun to mire-
The Feast is over and the lamps expire!

Yet- we have thought of Love as men may think,
Who drain a cup because they needs must drink;
Have brought a jewel from beyond the seas
To star a crown of blue anemones.
All fled, all done- a Caesar's brief desire-
The Feast is over and the lamps expire!

Yea- and what is there that we have not done,
The Gods provide us 'twixt sun and sun?
Have we not watched an hundred legions thinned?
And crushed and conquered, succored and sinned?
Lo- we who moved the lofty gods to ire-
The Feast is over and the lamps expire!

Yea- and what voice shall reach us and shall give-
Our earthly self a moment more to live?
What arm shall fold us and shall come between
Our failing body and the grasses green?
And the last heart that beats beneath this head-
Shall it be heard or unremembered?
All dim, all pale- so lift me on the pyre-
The Feast is over and the lamps expire!
