Thank you for this review. You have helped me find the poem The Tide, part of which, Robert reads to his mother, in the film. I looked everywhere! This film is a marvellous watch and Vincent is exceptional, playing the intelligent but socially awkward, Robert. I understand that when Renee collected her Oscar for Cold Mountain, she thanked Vincent for teaching her how to act. Good on her! The love story draws all the facets together and has become my favourite film. PS I think Dan Ireland was the director for Mrs. Palfrey at The Claremont and there are some parallels to be drawn between the two films

The story you were not able to find was one he planned but died before he started writing.

Saw this on X. Had to post this movie in the comments great Review. A reporter asked Cristiano Ronaldo: Why does your mother still live with you? Why not build her a house?
Cristiano Ronaldo: "My mother raised me by sacrificing her life for me. She slept hungry so I could eat at night. We had no money at all. She worked 7 days a week and evenings.

Thank you very much for this review, Todd. I was never aware of this movie, nor did I know it was about Robert E. Howard.

I bought this on DVD and watched it for the first time a few of years ago, and agree that it's a very enjoyable movie – it looks good and the lead actors deliver convincing performances. Howard's story is rather interesting regardless of his post-death fame and influence, and the film presents some memorable scenes in which viewers can easily sense his unhappiness and inner conflict.

I think it’s about two sad people looking for a connection. And in the end she realizes she can stand on her own 2 feet

I've enjoyed this movie 3x's Todd! It really shows what a troubled man he was, also what a genius!! Rene Z was also GREAT in Mrs. Potter. Cheers!

Terrific film story of a great writer who is still underrated. Being a writer, i love films about writers and the writing process, like is one, also the one on Tolkien. Great video, thank you!

Can’t believe you didn’t mention Leonard Lawrence..aka Private Pyle in full Metal Jacket.

I love this movie too. I see it as a great character study. And Vince is amazing. Intimate human drama well made is my favorite kind of cinema. Movies about writers fascinate me anyway, but this one is terrific. Thanks for the Tubi tip!

I used to have this movie on dvd, it wasn't bad but when it gets to the part of the movie where it references his correspondence with H.P.Lovecraft it's basically made out to be just a footnote when in reality it was a huge part of both Robert & Howard's lives, there's actually a deleted scene that also references their letter writing but once again it doesn't amount to much. The best part of the film is when he's describing Conan to Renee Zellweger's character.

Robert E Howard's writing was a class apart and few could produce the malice undertone he could weave into his stories.

The scene where he is talking about the western novel, that sadly never came to be it would have been a very very interesting and probably an important read for American culture. Howard was and is the greatest pulp writer ever

Howard wrote it all, NOT just fantasy, but westerns, mysteries, etc.
