One of my all time favourite performances. It's like she sees something that everyone else doesn't and she is trying her best to describe it but she is just tired/frustrated and on the verge of giving up. I don't think I will ever really put in to words what I feel when I hear this.

Reading her autobiography brings me to her encountering her first boyfriend as a shell of a person of who she knew him as. She chose her life in music over him, rightfully so, but since Edney’s mother was so stuck on them being together, she never let it down even after he had married her friend after she went off to New York. This performance channeled that feeling in one portion at least, where you can see different waves of nostalgia coming up in the song. I’m honored to be from North Carolina and revere this phenomenally artistic woman. She proved that only she could do that.

It’s the quality of her voice that I love.
