Autozone also had this tool as a loaner and it definitely works better than a sledge hammer!

Nice. Just rented a pitman tie rod puller just like the one you used. Good video. Now I know how to use it. Thks

I just bought one to use on my Chevelle and it wouldnt grip on the tie rod end...too large. I used a propane torch and heated it and it popped right out. I think I can make an adapter for smaller tie rods to use the tool.

Be careful using these - if the head of the screw of the puller is off any it can cause your bolt to mushroom which means you can't get the nut on or off which makes for a real risky drive to the mechanic with your tail between your legs. Working on a 2015 Nissan Altima and this was a miss not a hit as far as tools go. (EDIT) - Turns out Auto Zone had a "Ball Joint Separator 7/8" by OEM Tools" as a loaner. You pay them $35, you use it, you return it, you get the $35 back on the card you used. Easy as all hell threw a 15/16" socket on top to turn it popped off like a champagne cork.

A puller like this is better and safer for a still good outer tie rod than banging on it with a hammer which I don't recommend.

You have hit the knuckle itself with a 5lb hammer to free it.
