At Intel Innovation 2023 we got our first look at a handful of Core Ultra Processor laptops (aka Meteor Lake), all running various AI demos. In this video Adam runs through the demos that were shown, how they were configured to use the newest hardware, and provides some insights into using the devices.

Intel adding NPUs to their chips, AND actually getting big software partners like Microsoft and Adobe to use it is huge. Not everyone can afford a beefy, high power and expensive GPU for AI work, and now Intel will have AI acceleration in all their chips. In a year there will be $500 laptops with MTL and NPUs, so everyone can enjoy AI acceleration, not just people with high end modern GPUs.

Looking forward to the new Ryzen Unleaded Ultra Premium Plus

As a developer: how do I partition the model across NPU, iGPU and CPU effectively? They all access system ram, but run different operations faster/slower/power efficient.

Is there an MTL testing PCIe card I can get for my workstation or do I have to buy such a laptop to optimize the experience for end users?
I have been working with OpenVINO for more than a year, and auto device map isn't working correctly as or 2023.1 release

Oh yes, the name change. So retroactively I'm watching this on a Intel Core Ultra Series 0 desktop.
Actually, I will call this that in the future, since we start counting at 0. Sigh. Every programmer knows this.

And now I wonder if we will get NPU's on PCI-e cards...

I'm sure ultra is great, but I'm holding out till mega cores come out.

I think It will be difficult to name this disaggregated processor by the scheme of generation, because it can essentially update each individual tile and completely change the performance on just one thing while keeping everything else the same. The combination will be too much to keep track with, and would be unfair to still call something the first gen, when the GPU tile is in the next gen while the logic tile is still in Intel-4 node.

Perhaps this video would be more interesting if it featured new applications the AI tile will enable for average users and what the programs will be called.

That meteor lake cpu performance is insane for sure, especially at productivity software which destroy even an ryzen 9 7950x3d, not to mention meteor lake is designed to use very low power just like Arm CPU which is really insane.
Rip AMD zen 5 before comes out, intel already buried them in the dust :D

Should have waited for Meteor lake. Bought a laptop with Ryzen 7080hs recently. I actually know how to use Openvino.

Ultraman, Samsung Ultra, Intel Core Ultra etc ... All are Ultra !

Actually, Core Ultra Meteor Lake means integrated chiplets on silicon, called tiles by Intel, which is a new chip architecture

I wonder how many years it takes for softwares to widely adopt this NPU. Otherwises the NPU will sitting mostly idling?

Is it core ultra, as in ultra performance, or ultra portable? I feel like the new naming scheme wasn’t properly thought out.

Are these processors meant to only use the integrated gpu? Or will the work in conjunction with a 4090 for more performance?

I remember the old days when 640K was enough and you were elite because you had a 8087 coprocessor. Good times ahead..

I have been off youtube for a while, what happened to Gordon Mah Ung? Haven't seen him in any video lately.

Now my i7-12700K is totally obsolete because of the NPU.

I just hope these processors do everything better than the last gen rather than downgrading and adding the NPU. We want increased performance in software we already use.
