'Way Down Hadestown' by Lillias White and Ensemble

Fun fact! Lillias White also voiced the center/main muse in Disney's Hercules. Who is credited as being Calliope. AKA the mother of Orpheus. So with Hermes being Orpheus's parental figure in Hadestown, I found this to be a cool coincidence.

Okay, but the staging of Orpheus is hilarious when Hades comes into the picture, he does a little gazelle leap to get in front of his wife, then he literally has to put his hand in front of her to stop her from jumping in. Poor dude.

I was shocked when I saw a woman doing the hermes roll in such a good way! It's such a great thing about theater that the type cast is "flexible". I clearly need to watch more theater because I didn't expect the gender change and it works so well and she is amazing!!!

Was able to see Lillias perform on Christmas Eve. She fubbed the alright part and said "I'm sorry I'm out of it today. Merry Christmas." I don't know why but that little mistake is what sold me on her. I feel like the roles of Hermes in particular really lends itself to being personalized by the actor. She really made it her own and I absolutely loved it. I think I'll always prefer André but I love seeing what other people do with this role.

Orpheus stepping in front of Eurydice after she says "Kinda makes you wonder how it feels!" just kills me. Like, "Don't you dare hurt her!" Honey, he's literally the King of Hell. You don't stand a chance.

4:53 I never realized that descending scale was sung by Eurydice! I always thought it was Persephone!

I was lucky enough to see this with the original cast in previews -- which was transcendent -- but honestly, this cast just makes it their own in the best way. Lillias White as Hermes is just plain INSPIRED -- and I adore this Persephone's voice.

Jewelle's voice is absolutely gorgeous, I loved her when she played one of the Fates and she brings such a fun personality to Persephone!

Reeve is so cute look at him do the little jump to go in front of Eva. Honestly my favorite thing to do in ensemble songs is to scour the background for Reeve and Eva and see what they're doing

I don’t think there was any way she could beat Andrè De Shields, at least in my mind, but Lillias is still incredible in that role! She brings an interesting element to the character that you really don’t see in contemporary shows. I like it.

1:49 sorry I have Orpheus and Eurydice brainrot but on stage right look at them sitting on the same barstool. AGH. I remember when I saw this cast that during that moment Orpheus kissed her cheek and Euridyice laughed and turned around and kissed his, it was really sweet
