I just purchased this kit. I have NO problem with it OTHER than the Hi-Hat trigger. WAY too high for the release with no adjustment. The sound is fine. The snap is fine. The height for the release is NOT fine. Get ready for it to move, slide and hyper raise way past where it should to get the open hi-hat sound. Other than that, for me this kit is amazing.

I had this idea in my head. Take an old hi-hat stand, take the footboard off, weld the chain to the top of hi-hat trigger pedal which has a metal plate, then you can add little bigger to cymbals but still have the same trigger pedal on a normal hi-hat stand. It would require some modding, but it could be a cool solution. Anyways, I still like having an actually hi-hat stand. But still have my pedal triggers and use them for all inputs. Oh and great video btw.

Had this exact kit and had the same exact issue, thought it was just me! 😂 sold it and got myself a Roland

The hi hat trigger on my alesis command mesh kit doesnt work at all. Is there a replacement other than the alesis controller that will work? Im not trying to updrage, i just want something to function.

Thanks for the video!! Quick question, when I save a new sound (for example an edit to my snare drum). If I unplug the drum set, will I lose the new sound I saved? Does the Alesis Nitro dm7x have an internal battery that maintains newly saved info when it's unplugged? Or will it go back to the factory default? Thanks much!

So glad I'm already a lifelong drummer I don't really need the hi hat to do anything half the time, I normally use it for accents sometimes or when doing ghost notes.🗽♥️🤖

I also got an Alesis Nitro a few years ago, and I'm pretty happy with it except for the hihat, which I agree is the real dealbreaker in terms of playing feel. I feel like I can't make progress into more natural grooves with a hihat that only goes open/mid/closed. I'm honestly wondering if getting a used DM10 module + a RealHat would be the solution to my problems; those extras would be about the price I paid for the Nitro. But honestly, does any $600 kit offer a realistic continuous hihat experience?

Thanks again for your videos.
Just one question - I use EZDrummer with the Nitro Mesh module, works great and everything, but could it be possible that a different HH pedal would work with it? Probably with some midi tweaking? Just asking in case that you have an idea. I guess i will give it a try when my HH pedal arrives, if it just doesn't work, i will sell it online.

i'm a beginner and i feel like i cant control the hh positions very well, but i dont know if thats the pedal that's malfunctioning, or just me being a beginner.
to go from open to closed quickly seems impossible and the hh makes some weird beats. do you have any advice or opinion about that?

Im in a simular place - I moved to the GoEdrum unit but it's starting to fail after about 6 months and won't do the closed sound any longer. I went back to the Alesis Pedal and yes it works well enough but my biggest grip is back - it moves to easily (a problem solved by having a hi hat stand that I clamped to my rack). Did you try the Magnatrack HC-2 by chance?

Surge has 5 pedal sounds. Open, half open, closed, pedal (bark), and splash. It's also nearly impossible to purposefully hit all 5. Particularly the half open and splash.

I recently got myself the alesis nitro mesh kit. I have the extra tom and cymbal added to it. If i wanted to upgrade, do i just switch the module? Something where i could use a better hi hat?

thank you, do you know if the new alesis nitro max can handle the upgrade?

Do you have any tips for a beginner on how to consistently get the half open sound?

Thanks for the video! What about Crimson II? I’d plan to upgrade the Hi-Hat Pad on my Crimson II……

I bought the Roland froma 2400 dollar kit, thinking my problems are solved. ...nope. Only a certain 4 inch radius of the whole hihat will soundoff good. ....and as youre playing, the hihat turns ever so slightly so that 5-10 minutes later, you dont seem to be getting a good signal it has turned again. So annoying

I lost my acoustic set in a basement flood after I was just starting lessons. I have the nitro mesh now, but the hi hat drives me crazy. I worry if I learn to play on the mesh kit, I won't be able to switch to acoustic. Any thoughts?

What about changing the module itself to an advance one like the Alesis Command Module?

So would getting a better Alesis drum module help with better hi-hat sound on the Surge Kit? (assuming it is compatible)

My splash was fine but it doesn't work anymore, I don't know why, maybe I changed some settings somewhere
