Virginia License Plate Sticker Install - year and month DMV- G&C Tire and Auto Service

oday we are going to discuss Virginia license plates and license plate stickers.

In Virginia you can pay for your registration (license plates) and you have the option of doing one or two years and sometimes three years. The license plates EXPIRE on the last day of the year and month displayed.

Once you receive your new license plates you will have a month sticker and a year sticker that are stapled to your registration card. The month sticker will never change for the life of the license plates. The registration card and year stickers will change as you renew your tags. In some counties in Virginia you are required to get an emissions test before you are able to renew your registration.

If you look at your license plate you will see that there is a location for a MONTH sticker and a YEAR sticker on each of the two license plates. Virginia law requires that you display two license plates at all times if provided. This is typically all passenger cars and light trucks. Motorcycles and trailers only display one plate.

The month sticker goes on the left and the year sticker on the right. In subsequent years simply place the new YEAR sticker over the old one after you have cleaned off any dirt. Please note that only the year stickers will be updated, never the month, and you should always have a month sticker and a year sticker on each tag.
