Best thing about Thums Up is that it tastes less sweet than Coke.

Story how Coca-Cola brought Thumbs up: Coca-Cola went to every Thumbs up distributer of India and brought all the coke they had and then the Coca-Cola Company destroyed each and every bottle of it. Then they went to all the factories who used to make bottles for Thumbs up and told them to not to supply bottles to Thumbs up and instead they would pay 2X money thumbs up used to pay them. This leads to non- availability of Thumbs up in the market and availability of Coca-Cola only coke in the market. Finally the owner of Thumbs up had to sell his company to Coca-Cola.
After buying them, they eventually stopped the production of Thumbs up for Coca-Cola only market but it was too late, since in absence of Thumbs up, Pepsi entered the market and starts competing with Coca-Cola. Finally they decided to Re- launch Thumbs up to compete with Pepsi.
The ex owner of Thumbs up, now owns one of India's most popular Mineral water brand "Bisleri"

When I was in India in the 80s, they had a advertising slogan, Rush for a Thrill, Do It but don't Trip. Rush, Thrill, Do It, and Trip were all local soft drinks. Thumbs Up was my favorite!

Thums up! Taste the Beryl, you must make "masala Thums Up". This is one of the rare examples in the history of human civilization where perfection has been improved.

The world is missing out! I fell in love with thumbs up during an inaugural trip to India over 20 years ago. Apparently, the formulation has changed in recent years and it's not as "spicy" as it once was.

When Coke took over Thumps-up they tried shutting it down. Thumps-up is still going strong. It is one of their top products in India.

Fun fact: after coca cola took over thumbs up from Parle, it modified the formula ever so slightly. The original thumbs up flavor had a distinct taste (the primary flavor was based of off coffee unlike coca cola which is based on cocoa).
What we get in the market today is no more the original version. Inferiority complex, I suppose.
