I am a 90 average golfer. I watched this video and I change my mindset. Try to avoid problems and choose the right club. Guess what? Last game, 82. :) thanks MrShortGame!

Unfortunately you are looking at this from a low hcp perspective! Most mid/high hcpers I play with are consistently 2 if not 3 clubs short! They think they hit a 7/8 iron 150 yds which they may have done once downwind on a nice day!

This is GOLD. Great advice. I'm a handicap 5 and I'm lucky to make one birdie a round. I usually hit 12/18 greens - but I will try this method of yours. Good solid advice! Thanks!

Matt I know you won’t see this comment, but this strategy led me to my lowest score so far and I broke 80 for the first time with this advice. Made 2 birdies in a row and as a 14 handicap was 1 over through 9 holes. Back 9 fell apart a little bit, but a 79 is still a 79. Shot a 36 43

You nailed it with this one working really hard...and now I'm consistently hitting fairways, but struggling with the second shots....either being way too tentative or just messing up with indicision.
Will work on this vid now...🤘🏌️🌞😎

i can't count the times i stripe one from the tee box, leave a wedge to the green, and then chunk it weakly like a moron. It's like it is mandatory.

Brilliant video Matt. I completely agree that the 2nd shot is the most important shot. I had this exact situation yesterday. Hit a career best drive down the pipe and left a perfect number for my 2nd to a front pin. Hit the number but 10 yards right on a narrow green and took an awful kick left from the shoulder of a greenside bunker ended up 15 yards off the green having to chip over a bunker. Had I taken a bigger club I would've avoided all the rubbish and hit the middle of the green. Came away with a Bogey which should've been a birdie putt. I won't be making that mistake again after watching this!!

Justin Rose just proved this in spades. While we all want to be the longest driver (Koepka) and the best putter (Rose), if you're missing 50% of the greens on average during a 4 round US Open (Rose), eventually you can't up & down everything - and a guy hitting greens (Woodland) is likely going to score lower. To me it further amplifies your point - that under extreme pressure, Koepka (fade), Woodland (fade), Rose (draw), that possibly relying on the perfect timing of a draw into greens, can create that 2-side miss (Rose & Rory) that can break you under pressure. To see a guy like Rose constantly doing teaching practice swings on tees and in the middle of fairways speaks to the fact that he didn't have this type of 100% reliable goto distance & shape that you are speaking about - and it cost him bigtime.

Jack nicklaus always said the most important shot In golf was the approach shot and iron play, not putting not driving and not necessarily the short game. When people asked him about his short game and that it was a potential weakness of his he always laughed saying he didn't have to focus as much on the short game because he hit every green! So I totally agree with Mr. Short game!
