I actually wanted to get into annotating my books but there’s something about actually permanently marking my books that has kept me from doing it. I think I am going to definitely use the tabs but I’m still considering the underlining and highlighting. I have seen the transparent sticky notes which I think are cool, and I may use those instead to make notes in the book instead of marking the actual book. Also, by the way, your room is really cool. 😂

I color code the tabs to match the cover, and each tab has a respective matching highlighter color and it’s very satisfying ❤

Honestly I’m so bad at annotating! I’ve always wanted to do better with it but never found the time so this is perfect timing! Definitely taking notes ❤ also side note: underlining and highlighting IS completely different and I love your reasoning behind yours lol

I always use erasable pens and highlighters so that if I annotate and accidentally highlight wrong I can easily fix it. I would recommend pilot frixion clickers as well as the pilot frixion erasable highlighters. I find that these don't bleed through at all or dry out and they aren't that expensive. A bonus is also that the highlighters I use have a pastel colour which I find very cute (:

Thanks for your time with this video. I’m 63 — basically your mother but older :-) — you have much to offer the world with your enthusiasm and authenticity. Keep going!!! I have annotated books for MANY years and always appreciate my notes later. I’m not really into the tabbing method like you (and many others are), but I do make regular marginalia. I also will dog-ear the lower page corner on pages I want to especially remember. Sometimes MANY pages are dog-eared! Perhaps that is my version of your tab, though it’s not color-coded, obviously. And, I have been making “character maps” as I call them, for several years. It’s always helpful, especially for longer books or books with many characters. You’re a breath of fresh air, and I thank you!

I think annotation systems like the one Destiny has are so aesthetic and "intellectual." That being said, they always overwhelm me and feel like so much pressure.

Personally I annotate every physical book I own (because I read most of my books digitally, so I figure that if I own it I might as well personalize it lol) but I only pick 2 colors. 1 colour is for quotes or sections of writing I like, and the 2nd color is for scenes I enjoyed or found important. Doing it like this is a lot better for me because I don't have to keep track of a million different colors or "remove" myself from the reading experience to think about what type of quote it was. I don't know, It works for me.

As for writing in my books, i don't do it personally because I'm not a huge fan of my handwriting, but I will either paste my thought on a sticky note (though I wasn't a huge fan of that because it blocked some of the writing underneath) or I will take extensive notes in my Storygraph app and just reread those.

Anyway, I hope that helped anyone who's maybe just getting into annotating and is overwhelmed by some of the more advanced systems found here on YouTube because that's how I felt.

Love your sweater Destiny! & I’m excited to see your updated annotating video. I love annotating ❤ It took me a while to get comfortable marking books but I finally found my own style that feels natural to me. I try not to overthink it and that’s my advice for everyone else. And if anyone is scared to do it, start with some thrifted books you haven’t spent a lot of money on and books that are easily replaced.

For anyone looking for highlighters that NEVER bleed through - try pilot frixon highlighters. You can erase them and they won’t bleed through the thinnest paper. They have - muted/Pastell colors too)

For those who want to start annotating, buy a cheap second hand book that’s cheaper and use that. I have two of the same book and i annotated in the second hand one instead bc that way I have my good condition ones lol

Annotating is not for me, I praise anyone who loves to annotate. Annotating just reminds me too much of school and kind of takes the fun out of reading for me personally. You are very organized with your annotating Destiny!

I just recently got these new annotating tabs and they are amazing I think the brand is called Kanmido....? I think it’s a Japanese brand. It’s super cute, it comes with a clip that you attach to the book it’s so handy. Plus the tabs aren’t bulky. I highly recommend 😊
