I Made A Fake Twitter Account Of My Teacher

Jasmin and her best friend Sarah were hanging out at Jasmin's house - BORED - and trying to figure out what to do. This is a true story that begins just like so many others. They shared a few ideas that went nowhere, then Sarah got a devilish look in her eye and jumped off the bed. She suggested that they make a fake Twitter account of a science teacher from their school.

Jasmin was confused at first - why would they do that? But also a little bit curious - how could they do that? And Sarah explained, it's not like they were going to harass or cyberbully the teacher, NO, it's just that he didn't have an account and they were simply going to make one for him and see what happened.

Jasmin was still nervous about it, and asked Sarah if they could get in any trouble for making a fake account, and Sarah said no, and that they would just delete the Twitter account after they were done.

So, they get to work making the fake account. They create a profile for him, and post pictures with hashtags that they find of him at school and on field trips and on Google. Then, they start following everyone - absolutely everyone from school, the teachers, the school, the teachers' husbands and wives.... And it works - they fool everyone.

Everyone thinks the teacher's fake account it real, and so it's not long before teachers and other people start messaging Jasmin and Sarah, thinking it's the science teacher. They ask what he's doing over the weekend, and some want to make plans and hang out. It was just like Jasmin and her friends texting and messaging each other and making plans, except it was the adult teacher version of it - funny.

They weren't quite sure what to do at that point, so they just went with it and pretended to be him - responded to the direct messages he was getting. They wrote stuff like "sorry, I'm busy all weekend," and "Hey there, great to connect."

That all happened on a Friday night - and needless to say they didn't delete the account right after they were done. On Monday, at school and in between classes, Jasmin and Sarah overheard conversations going on in the Teachers Lounge. Oh no! The teachers were all asking that science teacher about his Twitter account, and whether it was really him. They heard him tell the other teachers that no, he didn't have an account, and then one teacher - sounding kind of mean and angry - almost shouting, said WE THINK SOMEONE MADE A FAKE ACCOUNT! Was it a prank? Was it cyberbullying? Was it a hacker? Who knew, all anyone knew is that is was a fake social media account. And that is was illegal and they needed to notify the police to find out who did it.

All day in class, in their classrooms in the school, Jasmin and Sarah were totally freaked out - so scared - and vowed to each other that the minute they got home they would delete the account. What they thought was really funny at first, turned out to be not funny at all. They were scared, and anxiety was kicking in.

But, when Jasmin's bus pulled up in front of her house there was a police car in the driveway - A POLICE CAR! She walked in, and just straight up a police officer asked her - "so, is it true you made this fake account of your teacher?" She didn't know what to say - was so nervous, thinking about Sarah and whether she was at her house with the police asking her the same questions.

Finally, they talked it out of her, and she admitted, "yeah - it was me." They didn't seem at all surprised. This was a prank gone wrong, a really wrong decision, fake social media, potentially cyberbullying, illegal, hurtful and wrong. Her parents were so mad. She and her friend got into real trouble.

Jasmin had to go see the principal, and she got a three-day suspension, some detention and except for all the work she missed and had to make up, it was better then she had thought it would be.

No matter how bored she might be, Jasmine is not planning to make any more fake accounts.

What that's unfair, it was Sarah's idea Jasmine just went along with it. Poor Jasmine got all the punishment and Sarah got away scot-free!!

Some girls did that in my school like a month ago for my history teacher but they made it look like he was a perv with his description. However, they both got expelled for that.

I did something similar in high school. There was a new teacher who came in at the beginning of the second semester and everyone (including other teachers) thought she was the most awkward thing ever. My history teacher was giggling about her to us one day and she was my favorite teacher at the time so when someone else said "hey someone should make a twitter for her!" I whipped out my phone and did it with a swiftness. My teacher and the rest of the class thought it was hilarious. I was always super quiet so it was nice being the center of attention for once I'll admit. Because the teacher was so new, we didn't have any pictures of her so we just made Umbridge her avi (because she reminded us A LOT of her at first) and tweeted little phrases she liked to say. The page was mostly dumb memes and nothing super nefarious because after awhile it was just making fun of school rules like "your shirt must be tucked in at all times". My friends would give me ideas of what to tweet and people I had never talked to before would come up to me at lunch telling me the page was hilarious. I soaked my 15 minutes of fame up like a sponge. The next day though I got a message from a senior telling me to take the page down. I ignored her at first because one of my senior friends had beef with her. But by the end of the day, I deleted it anyway because I was hearing whispers about someone snitching to the headmaster. Despite my deleting it, the next morning some girl that everyone knew as the headmaster's personal spy (I know this sounds ridiculous but boarding schools are crazy), warned me that I was gonna get in trouble. Just like that, by my second class period I was called to the headmaster's office. I was literally SOBBING I tell you. I snitched on my teacher too 😩. They called my mom and she drove two hours to yell at me. I got suspended for the rest of the week so I had to go back home. But the wildest thing was, I wasn't in trouble for making fun of a teacher...I was in trouble for *using my phone during school hours*. I was so steamed. I also had to write a letter of apology to the teacher. Luckily I was known as a good noodle and had been going to that school since I was 10 so the headmaster told me if I do a project on cyberbullying and present it to the school, I could get the suspension wiped from my record. But to this day (five years later) I'm so upset that I was suspended for using my phone and not for mocking a teacher like?? Everyone used their phone in class? Anyway, that's my storytime 🤗

The begining when she said "let's make one for him" And more like that reminded me of the Instagram bullies video. I think she was inspired by that video.
