In another attempt to unite the Opposition ahead of the 2024 general election, top leaders of the Congress, JD(U), and RJD met in Delhi on Monday to explore the possibility of putting up a united fight against the ruling BJP. While some parties have cleared their stand on the question of joining a Congress-led front, others have shown an inclination towards a third front - which will be minus both the Congress and BJP. Under these circumstances, is a powerful opposition alliance a pipedream, or can it be a reality? NDTV's Sunil Prabhu explains.

Nitish Kumar is the most unreliable ally. No body can assure he won’t switch sides if better prospects are there. Also most of these opposition parties are not principled and wish to unite only to stop Modi which may not succeed. Also congress will never allow any non congress PM to survive full term. There are more no of prime ministerial aspirants in the opposition. They may even ally with bjp post poll if better offer was made. This is the political situation today. BJP only will be in a position to decide the govt so that if bjp decides to keep somebody out of power they will be in a position to do that.
