Poor man. Clearly ill and died painfully, unexpectedly and alone. It really is a rough world out there folks. Clutch your loved ones every now and then

Unfortunately I was on that subway platform that morning. I along with so many commuters witnessed when this unfortunate man fell through the grate. Somehow, he gained entrance to the tunnel and fell to the tracks. He was severely injured and disoriented when he hit the track. He was trying to get up and he fell again and was subsequently electeocuted when his arm touched the third rail. EMS was able to revive him but he died at Bellevue Hospital. I understand that this man was homeless. I work with the homeless in a shelter as a Registered Nurse. I feel so bad for this man. I'm so sorry for the family this man.
Prayers up.
RIP brother. 🙏 😢 🙏

What a painful way to go imagine burning to death after having your whole body electrocuted and to top it all off being brought back to the pain to later die again.

What no one seems to realize is that if a homeless person can be rummaging around inside a grate in a subway, what stops a terrorist from planting explosives or doing some other damage?

I drive the C train and this incident delayed my train. R.I.P. to the man

Local officials should open up Insane Asylums that were closed in the 80's for the most schizophrenic homeless people

So sad. The thought of it is awful. I hope that he didn’t suffer. The subway platforms are a dangerous place. You have the 3rd rail & obviously fast moving subways. The 3rd rail is on the far side of the tracks & has a protective cover but are quite exposed. When subways are near you can actually hear the high voltage electricity teeming through the 3rd rail. It’s amazing to me seeing so many straphangers acting complacently while on these platforms some of which can be quite narrow in areas. Some people walk with huge bags & backpacks barreling on the platform & can easily inadvertently knock people off the platform onto the tracks. Obviously malicious acts are rare & only done by the unhinged criminals but there are many on the platform who are complacent & inadvertently move clumsily which can lead to accidents. I am still shocked that NYC hasn’t installed safety barriers & sliding doors on their subway platforms. Smaller & poorer countries have them on their subway lines.

Anyway RIP to this poor man. Regardless of his station in life & despite the fact that he shouldn’t have been on the tracks, he still was a person & lost his life in an awful way.

Thank you to all of you that have kind comments!! This man is my grandsons father and I'm so angry right now that I just had to hear the pain in my daughter's voice over the comments that people have been saying!! They may have been estranged but at the end of the day this man is human!!! And he has a family that loves him! Some of you act like you don't have a loved one that can be in this situation! All I can do is pray that you never have to deal with anything like this and if you do I hope that people think twice before they judge you! RIH WN!!! Watch over and protect your son!! He loves you!

It’s sad but I’m not surprised 42st looks like the open market from the 80’s, a whole bunch of homeless people on drugs and not a single cop on these train platforms. R.I.P to the gentlemen

People act like they care, but they really don’t.

3 rail is no joke it’s live. I’m surprised he survived for a couple minutes or hours.

Maybe this will cause city officials to act on the homeless situation that has gotten out of control. Especially in the subway. I'm sorry that the person lost their life.

I am sooo lucky to be alive myself. I suffered 3 huge electric shocks during a routine EMG procedure. The first one threw me off the chair. I am still disabled from that event but I am glad to be alive!!! What else can I say!!!

Homelessness is one of our 20th Century’s problem. It’s mind boggling, our dear Government handing out Billions of dollars of taxpayers money to other countries as Aids. But they don’t have money for our own people. It’s true some of the homelessness is by choice but lots of them are just because of the unfortunate circumstances. It’s really sad to die like that.

I hope that he found peace 🙏 I didn't know him but am somewhat disappointed in myself for not being there to get him away from the tracks.

I admit don't exactly look at people who appear more down and out then than myself with understanding, but I feel terrible for this Man and what he went through. But then again those are just words not action that's needed.

You cant accidentally fall down the tracks and end up on that third rail.
