I too was almost dead set on another brand (Komperdell). As soon as I saw that they were made in Austria I was completely sure that no other brand would be American or European made. Then I saw this video at just the right time and ordered the Makaku Cork Lites from you guys. They had everything I was looking for in a trekking pole (pure cork grips, aluminum, relatively lightweight, etc.). Made in the Czech Republic and a way better warranty than my original choice. These’ll be my first trekking poles. My 45 year old knees can take any more mountain descents without’em.

Purchased the Leki Khumbu Lite today from REI after a ton of research and going to try them out at stores. I’m bringing these with me on my 2023 AT thru hike 😎

My 8 year old khumbu poles broke off both carbide tips while tracking some weeks in laterite soils lately. I dunno how it happened. The tip was pushed all inside the pole. Anyways, I was looking for lighter poles now, but im pretty disappointed. There are some leki models with 131g a pole(trailrunning), but most trekking models are between ~235-280g a pole (regarding models with a rounded grip ontop). I dont get why you make carbon poles with foam holds (light materials) but dont get them lighter than way cheaper aluminium models with kork (like khumbu lite model, 246g)... whats the point here? Also most models are not even weighted on lekis official site...
