The Top 5 Issues Facing Star Citizen (And How to Fix Them)

In this video, I discuss how CIG can eliminate the negativity on Spectrum and improve backer relations.

Star Citizen is an upcoming game by Cloud Imperium Games, Inc. All footage captured in game. I am not now, nor have I ever been employed by CIG, nor did I receive any renumeration or incentive from CIG for making this video.

Great observations and well made points. Appreciate what appears to be a well thought out approach.

Good points! I've been a backer since 2013. In addition to those points I think two major things would benefit the company and the game a lot more.

1. Cutting unneeded content. They should focus on doing the tasks that affect the core gameplay loop eg the careers and mechanics that revolve around them. They've been working on core mechanics for years but only now we get some basic mining and trading.

2. Optimisation is imperative. It's statistically proven that most people are in the mid to low tier range of computing. They can't even play the game they pledge for at an acceptable level. A more optimised game means more people playing, and in turn more revenue from word of mouth from these players. Optimisation should never be left to the end of development because look at games like ark and dayz. It doesn't work. Optimisation is an iterative process that should happen during development. Otherwise they may get forced to rework art or server infrastructure when it's too late.

I'm really liking your input. I have been impressed by several of your reviews. I'm surprised you don't have more subscribers. I also totally agree that artificial scarcity on pixel ships you get for backing a game in year 6 of development is crap. If someone wants to spend their money let them spend it on what they want.

Absolutely agree! You gained a subscriber

The road map is like a weather forecast: the further into the future you go, the greater the uncertainty. Given the number of changes we've seen in the road map as it exists, I can't fault CIG for not wanting to project further than a year ahead.

Great to see idea on how the project could be improved, defiantly think that communication is a key aspect. CIG need to tell backers when they are going to change an aspect like ship pledges LTI, before they make the change.

You had me, until you said CIG should give a live release date. CR did that once before, when it was Not met, the Torches and Pitchforks came out, along with negative publicity. So no, I don't think you will hear that until it is truly ready. Everyone should know that CIG started out with 6 people in a basement in 2012 not a full gaming company as it is today with almost 500 employees as most AAA game companies. Most AAA game companies have have the platform they need to make the game, where as CIG had to rework almost the entire cryengine platform.
IMO you have to take 2 years away from the time spent on the making of the game. That was just for setting up the structure of the company. We backers are lucky to have been brought in to the inner workings of game development. No other company has ever done this before or make a game of this epic proportions .
PS. Don't worry about CIG being able to fund SC and keep the game going after release. CR will make the documentary, the making of SC. He already has the footage for a mini series, it just will need editing.

ALL problems come from the marketing department. When the head of marketing equates backing SC with spending a weekend in Vegas, ie hand over the cash but have no expectation of a return.

At this point the misrepresentation by marketing is seriously bordering on lying.
Why do we even need a 'marketing' department right now? Just stick to facts, no bullshit flowered up promises or vague info that they know they can roll back on. We are SIX YEARS in and so little seems to be actually designed out in detail.

1. The lack of coherent ship designs before a line of marketing copy is written, code is unit tested or a material is painted. 2. Lack of comminucation sync between teams. 3. Rapant feature creep towards a perfectionist goal that leaves us with a fantastic tech demo. 4. Eternal slipped deadlines. 5. Assets parading as gameplay. 6. No gameplay. 7. No plan. These are the responsibilities of a lead designer: this is either driven by Chris or a failure by Chris to fix it.

I sure hope they don't change the flight model to be like The Expanse. There is no reason for dogfighters in a model like this and it would directly contradict Chris's original goals at the start of this to be like a simulator with exceptions made to fun. In The Expanse, ships rarely if ever even visibly see each other during an engagement.

Personally I'm still somehow hoping for inertial dampeners withing the ships to allow movement during even low speed maneuvers.

you say that CIG misrepresentation by marketing on different ship is wrong, then what you say about the on ship is wrong, take into account what you say about the starrunner is slow as it's the same or similar speed to a cutlass or feelancer you need to take into account, first the overall size and weight (not yet displayed) so it's 40x38x11 making it much bigger by size (so it'll be heavier) than any of the 2 ship you mentioned only being 38x23x9.5 or 29x26x10 and take into account the carrying capacity, the starrunner 96 cargo the freelancer 66 the cutlass 46 so taken this into account then the speed for size ratio is above both those ship, so the freelancer is slightly slower chasing it at max speed it will never catch it. the cutlass is slightly faster it's going to take a long time to catch at 5mps faster, so size yes it makes it faster.

people including you compare flight to different games EVE, The Expanse, Elite Dangerous ETC ETC. if you want CIG to follow those flight controls then go play those games, CIG doesn't need to do what other games do!!!
for your information G forces in space are different to earth or atmospheric flight.
hence why travel round 40k in space doesn't hurt the body. G force changes to inertia in space the maxium G-force recorded on a human body and walk away with only a little more than back bruises was n 1958 and recorded a pummelling 82.6Gs on his chest accelerometer
