Music from Eduard Toldra, based on a poem from Tomas Garces. This is my own arrangement for piano solo from the original piece (for voice and piano)

He left early in the morning,
when dawn was just breaking,
and the star of love
was like a bud of orange flower.
The morning’s dew
was like tears of precious stones.
Sleep, infant,
your father is in the meadow
to pick flowering mint.
He will push the brambles aside
when the thorns will sting.
Thorns move out,
come, flowering mint.
When his white horse goes past,
the bird trembles and twitters.
The forest will brighten
for the moon will illuminate it.
Under the light of night,
the flowering herb was fleeing,
but the eyes of the white horse
track it down in the darkness.
Sleep, infant, sleep is sweet,
and the gentle wind invites it.
Tomorrow, early in the morning,
your father will be at the threshold.
He should find you in the cradle
like a sleeping star.
