I bought the cheapest beehive on Amazon as well. It worked great all summer. Come October, I closed off the entrance so we could move it up next to the barn for the winter. The bottom board fell apart! My husband and his friend were thankfully suited up. Boxes are still in great shape!

Thanks for the side by side comparison. I just checked on my son's bees on my property and they are doing fine. They will come out when it gets to 50s and there has been several days this winter that it has been that high and will be this week.

The right hive seems to be higher quality... it is the one I'd select. Just seems like there is just a bit more attention to detail on it and the "brand name" box seems exactly what it is mass produced for profits.

I have noticed that wooden items for outdoor use that are made from wood in China do not last very many seasons in outdoor conditions. My father always painted his hives white on the outside.

That's a very good price regardless. Waiting to see how it works for you, what you have to do to get to raise them, if that's how it's called, and get some honey. The bees always scary me lol.
Also, what are thoughts, besides the crazy pricing, on the east flow? Can it even work for years to come? Or is it one year use?
