California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s statewide executive order to remove homeless encampments prompts a natural question of whether Washington is far behind, given the recent Supreme Court decision and the state’s continued challenges in the crisis.

It is also now likely to be part of a political debate as voters decide about who should be the next governor.

In a lengthy statement to KOMO News, Gov. Jay Inslee suggested he will not follow Newsom’s order with anything similar.

It is truly time that people in California try giving Republican candidates a chance. Your Democrat leaders have been giving nothing but lip service for too many years.

Let us not forget that democrat policies led to homelessness, increased crime and drug use.

This should have been done over a decade ago. The progressive government of California has made the problem so so much worse than it should have been

Image how much easier and cheaper this would be if the Governor and like minded city governments had not actively supported the establishment of these camps.

Offering free accommodation to the homeless is not a feasible solution.

Elections come up, and all of a sudden, it is time to enforce the law. This is the Democrats way😮. As soon as November passes, it will be back to weak on crime as usual 😂😂.

Olympia is nasty with trash and homeless camps! Instead of giving free phones, free healthcare...give them jobs! Let them help clean up their mess!

The homeless can get assistance to restore them as productive members of society but very few homeless are willing to follow the rules that come along with treatment. It is not a housing issue, it is a mental health and addiction issue.

I was homeless. Helping me only prolonged my misery. It allowed me to continue living life miserably. Dont give them money or help beyond treatment. That's the best thing you can do.

Well I guess Oregon and Washington will have some new tenants arriving soon. Something else to fleece the tax payers for.

Treat homeless people with respect and see them as separate individuals in order to help them get their needs met. Direct resources toward our own citizens first, not noncitizens.

We'll believe it's a change of heart when they also start controlling their southern border. Don't hold your breath.

People keep asking why it wasn't done earlier...IT HAD TO GO THROUGH THE SUPREME COURT!!! Police and other city agencies were sued by homeless and advocacy groups for cleaning up encampments. I'm sick of it all. After talking to many homeless people I found they were coming from other states. Why can't other states take care of their own???
