I get chills when he hit him with the “when it gets hard and it will— DONT QUIT ON ME!”

My favorite scene of all time he gave his son great advice and gave him a radio that he knew that’s all he had to give his child to remember him and where he came from

This scene just speechless. As I write this tears are flowing. “Don’t you quit on me.” My Dad basically told me that as he was dying of cancer when I was 10 years old. I am 53 now and it feels like yesterday when he left me. I miss him to this day. My only true best friend. I am not half the man my father was. I just hope he is proud of what I have become.

This is the father I wish I had, and it's the father I want to be.

This is what we are missing in the black community today. A father can challenge the son in a way a mother can never do. We need father and mother 🙏🏽

Once upon a time in my early twenties I was living with my dad. I was at a crossroads in my life with no real sense of direction. I took a job out of state that wasn’t exactly a guaranteed situation. I remember putting my bag in my car getting ready to pull out of his driveway and he came out with tears in his eyes and handed me a letter in an envelope. He told me to open it when I got to where I was headed. I won’t go into detail as to what he wrote but it was comparable to this scene. The job wound up working out and put me on a pathway to a better life for myself. It’s been over 15 years now since that day and I still have that letter. I will keep that letter till the day I die, it’s one of my most cherished possessions. This scene broke me to pieces when I first saw it.

When I went to basic training? My dad said these exact words to me. Recently I lost my pops. And these are words I will always remember

My 16 yr old son started as a Diesel Mechanic few months ago. I warned him there will be days when it will get tough, and IT WILL be tough. And told him to keep moving until he gets his Certified license. It was a tough day for him and I told him, that I warned him and today was that day.

I told him to never quit on me.

I lost my dad to lung cancer in december of 2013, and this always gets me. I love this scene. ASNF indeed.

I knew this was gonna make my tears flow but i have to come here to tell my self dont quit ever. I will let my girls know this when i see them again. They Ball everytime i have to go back on the road. The sad part is one day i know we will have to part ways and this will be my saying to remind them to keep going like it has reminded me. No matter where we come from! In life there will be adversity. The good fight of faith is fought like that. Every parent should advise their children to develop this winning mentality.

Carl Lumbly. Everytime(and I mean everytime) this man is on screen he leaves an impression. Immensely underappreciated actor. Right there with Ben Foster.

This scene reminds me of my grandfather, whom I lost a few months ago. I watch this for motivation when I'm going through a tough time.
