Heres a soldering tip...
I work with electronics and have for anlong time ..
You want to keep from having to hold the tip on your work to heat it up enough to get the solder to melt... most people tend to turn the heat down too far. However by turning it down too far you run the risk of heating up the surrounding plastic and melting it.. You should instead be able to touch the area for a short amount of time, just a few seconds, and back it off.
This requires using the heaviest tip you can use to safely get in there where the work is.. because the heavier the tip, the more "stored" heat is in it...

I prefer as wide a chisel point as i can fit in there.. or as big of a knife blade tip i can to reflow a wide spot on a circuit board....

Bottom line is to just remember.... too small a tip and too low a heat setting is just as bad, if not worse, than a too hot s setting and too big a tip...
Not only will it over heat the overall part ... but it can also leave a cold solder joint...

Hopes this helps someone out there .

It's been my experience that this model runs cool. Even at max cal, it doesn't get quite hot enough to match the numbers on the dial. Ignoring those numbers, it gets hot enough for electronics. I used it to repair the instrument cluster on my caravan. I use it at work instead of the one provided, mostly soldering pins or extending cables.

I appreciate you finally finally doing a proper review I watched three others who just show off that they have it there did no soldering did nothing that's not a review thanks

Very nice! always sweet to have a adjustable setting for the smaller stuff you solder.

Excellent purchase, very good review and test. What I like is that there are several settings for the temperature and also the support of the soldering iron which is very secure. Very good video 👍

Nice one looks like it works great definitely nice having control of temperature

How stiff is the cable from the power supply to the iron? Does it bend easy and stay out of the way?

Your sponge is way too saturated, it should be only slightly damp and you should not be putting off plumes of steam or hearing it sizzle so much. The temperature of the tip is probably too high as well: at 4:20 when you said "that tip is white!", this is a symptom of extreme oxidation caused by too high a heat setting. Note that the solder doesnt wet to the tip here but instead kind of balls up and rejects it! What kind of flux was that you used anyway? If it doesn't smell like pine trees then it's not rosin flux. Good quality leaded solder already contains rosin fkux and only rarely requires additional flux for soldering or fir cleaning the tip.

I strongly prefer the brass wool type of tip cleaner that HF sells separately or which is available from other suppliers; The sponge tends to thermally shock the tips and shorten the life of the iron plating at the tip, which is put there to prevent the solder from completely dissolving and pitting the base metal. The supplied Harbor Fright /Schneider tips, however, are Absolute Garbage! They should be solid copper with chrome plating ( chrome rejects solder) except at the very tip which is (or should be) iron-plated (solder and flux would dissolve bare copper), and therefore the tips should not be strongly magnetic except at the tip. The tips supplied by Harbor Freight freight however are strongly magnetic at the back end, indicating they're not made of copper. Iron and steel are very poor heat conductors! I also find that the conical tips supplied don't work very well for most types of soldering. Buy some replacement tips, with a chisel shaped tip, from an electronics specialty supplier, and check them with a magnet to make sure they're mostly made of copper. If you buy tips blindly on Amazon or flea Bay you will likely end up with similar junk to what you already have. I posted a video about this same subject yesterday on my channel.

I bought the extronics 3060 complete with a kit I got the Amazon credit card $60 off my purchase was $25 out the door and as soon as the credit card comes in the mail I will cut it in half because synchrony Bank stinks stinks their customer service is lousy and if you're not careful even though you may have a credit card you'd prefer to use Amazon will put it on synchrony because they most likely get a kickback.... when this soldering station becomes on sale at harbor freight with ITC etc I will buy it and put it on a shelf I just purchased the electronics 3060 with complete kit as I just stated
