I actually prefer factoring or CTS. However, when I CTS, I use the Equating Coefficients method (something I recently came across and have been working with). I'm surprised I haven't seen it more often. It's faster (and easier to understand) than the traditional approach.

The quadratic formula is actually obtained by completing the square on the general quadratic function y=ax^2+bx+c.

I may be wrong but i think you miscalculated. At 2:49 you rearranged the calculation to be 2x(squared) - 8x-4 but explained that the 4 actually had a value of 8. Yet the original numbers were 2x(squared) - 7x-4. I believe you added an additional x by mistake which means that half of the calculations are incorrect
