You can't just keep people from voting because they might vote for someone you don't like. It's an injustice. No taxation without representation.

Fact: DC doesn't have voting members of congress
Fact: DC wants to become a state
Fact: The most popular proposition (that I've seen) is to just reduce the size of the federal district to just the federal buildings and a few small, surrounding areas.
Fact: If that proposition is approved and most of DC becomes a state, the federal district would still have 3 electoral votes in the presidential election, so therefore we would need to repeal the 23rd amendment
Fact: More people live in DC than in Wyoming
My Thoughts: Let most of DC become the state of Douglas, reduce the size of the federal district to encompass mainly federal buildings, and repeal the 23rd amendment

Also review statehood for Puerto Rico, but that's another story

The literal point of DC is that the capitol isn’t in a state

Then why aren't territories not given state hood? If DC gets to become a state, make sure territories become states too

DC was designed to be a neutral independent city. The founders designed it that way. If it's to become a state then the land should be returned to Maryland.

"as long as it doesn't exceed ten miles square, or in laymen's terms 100 miles"
That made it past your editor? Please refrain from trying to explain things that you clearly don't understand, like 3rd grade concepts of units of measure and length vs area, to the 'laymen'.
In case anyone is missing the problem here, my bedroom is 15 ft x 15 ft. That's an area of 225 ft^2, or in laymen's terms my bedroom is 50, 625 ft.

The people of DC are being held hostage by politics. They're not the lobbyists or lawmakers you know and hate, they're 750, 000 veterans, teachers, and normal people like you and me, except they're denied some of their most basic American rights. Congress is suppressing their rights and freedoms as a people without representation. Suppose you agree that the government has a responsibility to protect the rights of Americans like you. In that case, you should pick up the phone this week, call your Senator, and clarify that they’re on the same page about protecting the principles of our Democracy.

Do they not remember why it was created as a district in the first place, or...?

I think they want two democratic senators.

Shrink the size of D.C. Give the residential areas back to Maryland. Problem solved. It doesn’t need to become a state.

Just return the residential areas to Maryland and Virginia. We don’t need a city state

When the government gives up their guns, then I, the tax payer, will give up mine.

Who the hell cares about D.C. representation? Add the population to Maryland while keeping them a neutral city, simple and easy. No rocket science. What's more important is giving Puerto Rican people representation as they have for so long been one of the last "technical" colonies of the United States. These people need our help pronto!

DC should be unincorporated and given back to Maryland. DC has NO jurisdiction in our republic.

It is against the constitution to make DC a state, but hell when did the constitution matter.
