How to Convert WMV to MP4 Using VLC

Sometimes, beeing stuck with a WMV file on a Mac can be frustrating.
Did you know that a free software, probably already installed on your Mac can convert this file to MP4?

This worked once I figured out that I had to give the mp4 file a slightly different name from the wmv file. I tried several times with the same name (different extensions, of course), and I got that error you mentioned each time. When I changed just one character in the file name, it worked flawlessly. Thank you for that!

So how does this help? If it was that easy, we wouldn't need a tutorial. I've been using VLC for decades and I've never seen the convert/s.. interface like yours. It's really user friendly and self-explanatory. Most users however have different interface and won't benefit from this video at all.
