Here we suggest 26 items to be stocking up on from a grocery store. Of course, it only makes sense to buy items that you will actually use to rotate through your pantry.

We prefer extra virgin olive oil to other vegetable oils. We will have a video about vegetable oils coming up in the future.

The footage in this video is from the UK where the current exchange rate is 1.72 Canadian dollars to 1 pound.

We are a Canadian prepping channel focusing on preparedness for what could happen, survival and resilience, and making the most of what we have now. We are urban gardeners and we produce as many of our own veggies as possible.

Please join us for tips for prepping your pantry and preparing for what may be ahead.

We are affiliated with Amazon. Please see some of our Amazon favorites here:

Seeds, buy them and save them as you can. They will be useful and tradeable.

Start stocking up on paper plates & paper bowls, plastic utensils. If there is a water shortage, you don't want to be wasting on washing dishes.

I have used my rice stored for 10 years and beans. Ivory bath soap I've had some bars well over 10 years old and they were like new. I store Ivory soap because it floats. If you've ever taken a bath in the winter time with snow on the banks in a river then you know your regular soap you end up losing it. And you can also wash your clothes with it and you can shampoo your hair with it. And if need be you can wash your dishes with it..

I would add basic first aid and cold medicines that you would normally use.

I would also add baking soda and vinegar which can be used to make cleaning and hygiene supplies.

Great list. My adds: Mickeys of booze for barter. Razors, salt, sugar, hot sauces, soya sauce, popcorn, basic battery charger for aa aaa etc with option to plug in to 12v, 110 or solar. Bleach. I will leave it open for others to suggest more. One big thing to consider, buy stuff you normally eat, don't buy what you don't. 😉

Hey hey!! Great vid! Oats are the BEST pantry item to have because you can not only make oatmeal which is filling, but you can use it to stretch your meat/bean dishes and make quick cookies! Mash a few bananas, mix in some oats til the batter is thick, then you can add vanilla or cinnamon or chocolate chips or whatever you want. Scoop em into cookie shapes on a cookie sheet, pop em in the oven at 350° for 10-15 mins and that's it! They're an easy, healthy, quick, gluten free, and delicious alternative to regular flour cookies.

Although not food, I would add matches, candles, laundry detergent, batteries, flash lights or oil lamps, butane stove, disposable plates, cups and cutlery, trash bags, water, water filters or water purification liquids, children and adult OTC meds.

I would add dried milk and chili. I don't know about chili in general, but the Stagg chili has an incredible shelf life. It is on the expensive side, but does go on sale a couple times a year for $2 a tin which is really good.

Wool (merino/cashmere mix is good) socks and underpants (seriously underated by anyone who hasn't walked 30+ miles a day) also medicated foot powder, Epsom salts and baking soda, if you have trouble getting around without a vehicle it won't matter if you have food or not, even a bicycle is better than walking

Another good backup is green coffe beans... shelf life 100 years + ... Easy to roast in a frying pan/skillet...takes 10 minutes...then just grind them up. The caffeine hit is way higher than even freshly ground coffee...bit too much sometimes :)
I've had a 2kg/4lb bag for over 7 years, which I use periodically, to show people how easy it is to roast beans yourself.
Great list ! Worth saying that tampons make great firelighters when broken apart and mixed with vaseline or 70%+ alcohol hand sanitizer....so they're multi-use...👍

I'm buying charcoal on sale. Once a month cooking on the BBQ. Saves money on gas and electric ⚡ just reheat!

I bought stock over the last 8 months, but have prepped since 2010. I ramped it up this last year, just by buying extra items every grocery delivery and on amazon. It adds up. When some people say it's hoarding, it's because they don't think ahead. They don't have extra and it makes them feel better to blame others who do think. I am not referring to you. When Covid first hit, I was short on TP, it was something I sure didn't think of. I still haven't hoarded it, but have regular delivery from Amazon. It's normal for me.

Yeast, flour and sugar. Making even rudimentary bread among other things. Sugar has lots of uses as well.

I have pastas and rice for two years! I'm buying meats on sale and placing in my freezer. Going back to that special Sunday dinner for the family where it's got a ham and loads of sides! Prep food for the week!
