Is the Sunflower Lanyard ACTUALLY useful?

There's been some controversy recently around the use (and abuse) of the sunflower lanyard.

I hate being ignored by shop assistants. Maybe shops should have a designated member of staff, noticeable by them wearing a badge, who's there especially to help disabled people?

I'm autistic but have no problem wearing a face mask. I found the regular lanyard has been taken over by the anti face mask lobby but the tesco one still carries the original meaning which is a god send when I go blind to things that I'm looking for.

I am a relatively recently diagnosed Autistic and have found the Sunflower lanyard a godsend, I happen to be mask exempt as well due to the way my autism expresses in tactile sensitivity's. I have never had an issue with needing help and not being offered it, but that might have to do with the fact the partners at the supermarket I tend to go to are very well trained. It is a training thing mostly I think.

I have also been thanked at the building society for waring it as it means they know I need help although they also do link it with mask exemption. In my area though it does only tend to be those who have a real need who use them and those who are only mark exempt use red lanyards which state they are mask exempt.
