Hello and welcome friend in this lecture Who trying to look at some of the Linux and UNIX file system functions. So there are two basic commands for changing the ownership and permissions and we tried to look one of them which is more change more so more basically support those the permissions of a file. There is a change under which when you go in and subsequent windows change more as we know is for changing the file permissions. Typically when you create any file and if you look the file permissions with the help of Gaumont like less minus 8 or less minus L which is a long thing and list and you will see the permissions like this. What this means is that this BPC read this bit is right and this meekest execute. So that's what I have mentioned here are these four read the values for this right which is a modification. Permission is granted a user group or other. If they have their permissions which means that they have the motions to modify the contents of a file or they can believe it takes minutes to execute their missions which means that they can blunder blindly on a program on a script file. So they have sufficient privilege to run. Now if we look more closely here I have separated by a space. Typically this is not supported by space but I just separated by space for clarification. So if you look here first three. So this is first with second third bid. So this first three moves are for machines for user and minded this permissions due north. It's a fight. If there is a need here which means it's a dead tree. So you like to go with this. This just signifies that this is file on a directory. So when we say frostbit we really means from here not from here. So first third bits are for users then the subsequent three weeks are for the group. So this would if you see here group has only read access. They don't have right or Mexico or Texas and the last one is for others. That means anyone apart from user and group. So there's a concept called use it and the user is a user as we all are user present in the system and there are certain groups of group means a set of people with some responsibility. Administrators can be one printer tool or printer admin can be another group things like that. So typically when we create a user we create a core support group also so if I create a user John I will create a new group called John. So anyone who belongs to Blue John. So there might be a user called Mike. He also belongs to the group. John and John is also users joining the group and Mike has a different view but he belongs to the user group. So whatever permission is did in blue John might also have those permissions as part of the group. So if you belong to a group whatever permissions belong to that group you really by default get that permission. So that's what good news and other means. This will last three days for others which means that you don't belong to the user you don't belong to the group. So you are none of them. So that permission or whatever permissions you have. Now if we look more closely like this. So frustum tributes are for the user. And within that first three big facilities and then the next subsequent begins right. And then third because it's bigger than the Air Force which is again right for the group to be these are the read for the group first is to read for the group 50 which is great for the group and 60s. Again it's good for the blue and then 70s for read for the others. It is for right for the others and 90s to work for us. If you look at the numerical value the value of Parkhill whatever the are we have seen him then the medical value of our is for so we can go back and then the medical value of w is two and a numerical value of x he could be just one. So if you sum up four plus two plus one is equal to seven. So any user or group or others they can have a max permission of several That's a good initials. So if you look here we have full permission in this particular case. I'm just giving you an hypothetical case. So it's a read write execute. And so this is 4 plus 2 6 plus 1 7. So this is 7. And again this regraded so good. So this is for 2
