'Virtue-signalling' North Face mocked by fossil fuel industry

Sky News commentator Rita Panahi says clothing brand North Face has been mocked by the fossil fuel industry for its “corporate virtue signalling” in a searing online advertisement.

North Face received widespread praise after it announced it will not fulfill orders from Innovex, with the clothing company claiming it views oil and gas in the same way as the tobacco or porn industries.

Ms Panahi said the industry did not take the criticism lying down, with Liberty Energy CEO Chris Wright producing an advertisement thanking North Face’s reliance on oil and gas when it produces its products.

What does it say about a companies management when they don't even know what their products are made out of. Shareholders should be asking for the entire Northface board to be sacked.

Northface being against petroleum products makes as much sense as electric car companies saying they will NEVER use energy from petroleum or coal producers.

they would also be charging you an absolute premiuim for items made using sweatshops in india or china. who would have zero enviromental responsibility.

Virtue signaling seems to be working for every other major corporation these days. It's truly so pathetic.

Northface - save the environment. Buy our jackets made out of petroleum to hike to the most remote places on earth, you know the ones only rich people are allowed to see.

Thankyou North Face. Your services are no longer

Maybe oil & gas companies should refuse to supply North Face with that 90% of material they need to stay in business.

Finally, someone in the Petroleum Industry points out what I have been saying for years, virtually EVERYTHING in our society depends on petroleum, in one way or another. Including "Green, Eco-Friendly, Environmentally safe, Recycled, etc." stuff. Virtue signaling is just another way for entitled d-bags to feel superior. Greta Thunberg gets to her "heart-felt, emotion-packed speeches" in vehicles made from, and fueled by, petroleum products. Organic foods get to your favorite hipster bodega via petroleum-using vehicles. Your hemp-fiber "drug rug" was made from cloth woven on machines that use..., yep, petroleum. Until someone can find something to legitimately replace petroleum, we are stuck using it, or go back to hunter-gatherer ways.

What's the saying, go woke go broke. They just skipped the entire process and cut off their own supplier. Brilliant.

A lot of these oil, car and other industry business people are tripping over themselves in a race to go electric, solar or wind but don’t seemed to have learned the lessons of the past to not put all your eggs in one basket. If a simple prolonged power outage occurs for example, due to the much lower producers and intermittent energy sources they now ‘praise’, and they’re out of work in a blink of an eye. These are not intelligent business decisions.

Hypocrisy anyone?? This is the cutting of your nose to spite your face mentality.

Can't afford their clothes and wouldn't buy them if we could. Not much use for them in the Bay area anyway.

Keep up the good work reporting this nonsense.

Not to mention the entire company uses gas and/or oil in their vehicles. Even electric cars use oil for lubricants and the electricity they use to recharge likely came from fossil fuel.

Rita is a nice feature for the eyes. I like her soft sarcasm.
I think I could help, with the sarcasm. It has served me well.

This is what should happen more often - call out the hypocrisy.
