This didn't work for me. Neither did the Settings/Cursors. I use a MacBook with external monitor and the Magic Keyboard. I could not get the issue to stop even though my caps lock was off and Cursor settings were set to normal. Ultimately I found that when I opened the lid to my laptop the caps lock was on and not reflecting what my magic keyboard was doing. After I turned the caps lock off on my laptop instead of the Magic Keyboard, everything started functioning normally.
