From Earth to the Lagoon Nebula

We begin with a recent image of the galaxy rising above Devils Postpile rock formation (illuminated during the 10-second exposure). Located in Sierra Nevada, California, it is a cliff of hexagonal basalt columns, formed from cooled lava about 100,000 years ago. But the main target here is a little halo in constellation Sagittarius, known as the Lagoon Nebula or M8. In dark skies it is also visible to unaided eyes as a fuzzy star, aligned with the galactic center. This cosmic zoom takes you to the heart of this giant star-making cloud about 4000 light years away, as revealed a few years ago by Hubble Space Telescope.
The second part of the video is by @EuropeanSpaceAgency. The music is by my colleague composer Barbad Bayat.

Babak, I didn't know about you before the protests(I'm not a photographer, but I do appreciate beauty) in Iran and saw your recent posts on Instagram. I then followed your pics and captions and it led me to your YT channel. As an Iranian-American I am so proud of your technical and artistic abilities to capture what you do. So happy to see the beautiful imagery you share on your YT channel. I will be sharing it with everyone I know. Merci, dorood, va be sooye azadi.🕊️💚🤍❤️
