🤔 One of the things I wish people who are dedicated to promoting "democracy" would acknowledge out loud, is that the neoliberal economic system is what has led to this dissatisfaction with democracy and what has led people to want solutions that destroy that system. If we don't acknowledge the underlying problem, then no matter how much we shout "but democracy is better than authoritarianism, " the message will be empty... and the US is a very bad messenger to defend democracy, because it has used the pretext of democracy to stage coups against elected governments and installed dictators, in order to benefit American corporations with the natural resources of those countries. Some countries simply want to defend themselves from US interference and so they choose an authoritarian to stand up to it...
