The original animated transformation is a masterpiece. It's so eerie and kind of violent, but so effective. You can feel Ariel's tail being torn and transformed, as she's losing the ability to breathe underwater. It's one of the bravest scenes in Disney history.

I remember hearing the directors of the original movie saying they always meant for the transformation to look painful

I loved how dramatic and intense her transformation felt in the animations it literally gave me goosebumps. But I also liked how Halles transformation felt kinda eerie, she turns human in this dark cave and is suffocating for air. I almost didn’t think she’d make it because of how deep she was.

0:33 There's something about that storyboard where we see Ariel's tail and spine sort of stiffen that looks especially painful because in a sense she is about to lose some of her flexibility and agility that she had underwater.

4:43, I don't think this one gets enough credit. It might not be the most complex but it's so satisfying seeing her transform so fast, and the use of two skaters worked great here

Jodi Benson and Halle Bailey’s Ariel Transformations are epic to me!❤️💙

It looks like she is being reborn in the animated one, she goes inside a womb, it’s quite graphic but very effective.

2023 version Ariel: *is literally on the verge of dying of suffocation*
Sebastian and Flounder: *chilling*

The fact that in the remake you could clearly hear Ariel’s fin ripping apart as it turned in to legs blew my mind! The remake is an absolute masterpiece!!

Edit: This is thoughts put into words,

Alright, so here's the problem with things after Ariel is changed, cause firstly you forget how deep Ursula's home is.

Sunlight does not penetrate the eternal darkness below 1, 000 meters (3, 280 feet)

From the 1989 version, Ursula's home is surrounded by what looks like high-temperature hydrothermal vents.

Hydrothermal vents in the deep ocean typically form along the mid-ocean ridges, such as the East Pacific Rise and the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and you start seeing them at 2, 000ft below the surface.

Also keep in mind many free style divers, without O2 tanks; will dive up to 400 feet, record holding at 700ft.

Now at 1, 000fts, even with O2 tanks and proper training; you started to have trouble breathing.

So if you've read this right, you can start to see the problem with Ariel's change but I'll wrap this up

With Ursula's home being aprox. 2, 000ft or lower below the surface, after her change the pressure alone should've killed her.

If not that, the bends would soon after as she was rushed haphazardly to the surface.

And after all that, if we are basing this at the Mid-Atlantic Ridge area, even with Sebastian and Flounder's help she would still have miles, if not days to go before reaching shore.

Then the exhaustion would be another obstacle.

So to be blunt, she would’ve died before seeing Eric at all.

one of the few things i love about the 2023 remake is this transformation scene. These "volcanoes" exploding around Ariel, Ursula laughing and spinning around like a maniac, the scissor sounds when Ariels tail becomes legs, the "Out of the water, sunrise"-scene. Only complaint: Sebastian and Flounder didn´t help her swimming to the surface

The production of The Little Mermaid began in 1987.
Just old storyboard concept arts.
Between 1987 to 1989, it took two years to finish the animation progress in post-production.
The Little Mermaid was finally released in 1989

I want to know who came up with that gorgeous hair flip?

If you ask me, this is one of those good news/bad news moments. Good because Ariel finally got what she wanted, but bad because it got Ursula closer to her evil goals.

I read for the new one, hallie said they had to do 20 takes for the hair flip and she almost broke her neck, something along that line

Justourvoice just to let you knowthe transformation part is one of my favorite parts from Little Mermaid, Ariel looks really cute and beautiful when she got her legs. Even though she was kind of half natural-looking.

But of course I even feel bad for her that her voice was taken, because I thought it wasn't fair for her not to have a voice.

I even felt bad that she almost drowned as well, I even remembered when I was a kid it needs to scare me.

Because of hearing Ursula laughing in the background, and poor Ariel having no voice and that she almost drowned.

But it was a good thing her friends Sebastian and Flounder helped her

I love the big instrumental build at the end of her transformation in the musical.

Jodi Benson and Halle Bailey’s transformations were equally remarkable.

I kinda like the live quick changes for the transformation. It may be simple and one might be able to easily figure out how it's done... But there's a charm to it... So pretty!!
