How to the Equation Graph y = 3

In this video we'll draw the graph for y = 3. It is perhaps easiest to think of y=3 as being a line where all the values of y are 3. That means for any value of x, y will be 3. Because of this we end up with a horizontal line that crosses the y-axis at 4 and does not cross the x-axis.

We could also use a table of values to plot points on the graph. Once we have two or three points, we can draw our line for the linear equation. You can choose any values of x for your table, however, 0, 1, and -1 are often best since they result in point that will fit on your graph paper.

Note that you could think of y=3 in slope intercept form.

y=mx + b

Here we don't have a value for x and the y-intercept (b) is 3. So we could write

y = m(0) + 3

and use this information to draw the graph for y=3.
