I think a good first step to stop the overuse of antihistamines would also be for doctors to take allergy symptoms seriously, and figure out what the person is allergic to. Anyone who has any type of allergies knows you’re willing to do anything to alleviate it, including overusing or even mixing antihistamines. I have some type of allergy and I don’t know the cause, no doctor I’ve spoken to (so far) are willing to even do a skin prick test. I’ve had this for a couple years at this point, my flare ups last a couple months and don’t seem to happen in any specific season or with any regularity. I’m having a flare up right now, and the last one was over a year ago.
I get hives that are red, hot and “bubbly”, my face and lips swell up, my neck turns red and my skin feels hot like I’m over heating or getting a sunburn. At this point I’m just anticipating the day my throat starts closing up or I go into anaphylactic shock. Something about the fact that my lips swell and my neck gets red sounds to me like I’m not too far from that scenario.
I’ve taken pictures of all my skin related symptoms and shows doctors, but they only have me take some mild over the counter antihistamine which obviously don’t help at all. I’ve done some research and switched out anything I found that could cause my reaction, from foods to soaps to laundry detergents to fabrics, and nothing has helped. Whenever it flares up I try to figure out what caused it, and most of the time I have done the same things, been in the same places and used the same products. It’s as if it comes out of nowhere, so I don’t know how to stop it other than trying every single OTC allergy medicine one by one in hopes of finding one that helps, because no doctor has prescribed me anything else. For this flare up I’m trying Benadryl, and I hope it helps.

I have severe allergies and asthma. I take so many different things. Benadryl is the only thing that helps me when things get bad, short of taking steroids. I wish there was an alternative for me.😞

I'm addicted to Benadryl. Seriously. When I stop taking it, I have the WORST sleep paralysis you can possibly imagine. It literally feels like a demonic attack everytime I try to fall asleep. I'm going to get dementia someday probably.

Just so yall know taking Benadryl is good and fine to use if it is only for a bit for a problem you have like sickness and allergies but just don't do it long term.

Full offence intended, but chiros are not the people you should take health advice from.

Why would you take the interpretation of medical studies from someone whose profession stands in the face of any emperical evidence.

Similar thing happened here in the UK, a guy took too much and went missing and was found 300 miles away in the lake district with no idea how he got there.
Don't abuse drugs kids.
