It's been 5 years and a new generation of consoles since the Xbox One X first graced shelves across the globe.

After all this time, and with the Series S being readily available, is it still worth looking at for gamers not looking to splash out on the latest and greatest?

In this video I outline 3 reasons why you might invest in the One X and 2 reasons why you may look elsewhere - namely to the Series S.

If you swap out the HDD for an SSD on both the Xbox One X or PS4 Pro you’d be able to hold out a bit longer on making that splash into the current gen.

I still have my One X despite upgrading to Series X last year. Its in my bedroom now instead of the Den. Its biggest advantage over the Series S is it has a 4K Bluray player

I bought Xbox One X near mint for $250 6 months ago. I put a Samsung 2TB SSD in 2 weeks ago and what a difference it made. Best of all I didn't need to format it, OSU1 did that for me. You do lose the boot up animation when you start it up. The last up date puts your animation back in on start up.

I almost got a One X in 2021 when I wasn’t able to buy a Series X because of the fact they were so hard to get. Then I was able to get one for Christmas that same year and I was so happy lol, now I’m getting ready to upgrade my PS4 Slim to a PS5 pretty soon.

Six months ago, I went into the game shop to buy an Xbox series. S. The guy said no you don’t want one of those you want an Xbox one X He had a special edition one which was actually aluminium. Top. I’ve never seen a metal console, but I thought okay. This is something special. Unfortunately when I got home I realised the CD player in it didn’t work. It was very noisy and it just didn’t seem right 24 hours late. I took it back and explain to the manager who was deeply embarrassed that I was sold something one that bad and two is not what I wanted in the first place. I finally got my series S in the end the manager gave me a brand-new one halfprice mainly with embarrassment and I’ve never looked back. So for me the Xbox series S is superior and now with the Xbox series X I have yeah I’ll stick with these thanks

I bought one at the tail end of 2020 after I got a 4K TV for Christmas that year. I had / still have the launch day One from 2013, but it NEVER saw the amount of use that my One X has so far, the later this generation got the better the offerings got, add in expanded 360 and OG Xbox backwards compatibility and it’s a no brainer to have one of these! I wanna do an SSD swap on mine to a 2TB to REALLY take advantage of the processing power, new thermal paste

I'm actually looking for an Xbox One X myself, despite owning both a Series X and the original Xbox One.
Why do you ask? Several reasons:
- small and compact design
- 4k Blu-Ray drive
- the best way to play Kinect games
- Runs old games great, and many of them are in 4k

It's also a great piece of hardware to have outside my living room where the Series X is at all times.

EDIT: I got one!

I feel like the Xbox one x has such a unique startup screen animation, that that never really existed on any other of Xbox, other than the OG Xbox.👍. One thing I want to point out about the series s, is yes, it does have 512 gb of storage, but it is also fully digital, and that space will disappear very quickly if u play a large library of games.

One thing that has really annoyed me in most tech but especially next gen consoles is the removal of the optical port. That is actually a really useful option for when you game on a monitor as you can have a separate output to a soundbar. I really miss that from the One X and PS4 Pro as wanted to use a Sonos Ray on my desk.

Opened up my x1x today and threw a cheap 2tb SSD in there. Night and day difference. Pair this with with a 1440p or 4k monitor and it's stunning value. VRR Freesync is awesome, they're randomly adding new compatible models all the time, 1440p gives you 60hz in a tonne of games, not to mention it's a beast for backwards compatibility and 4k blue rays look amazing.

Would take this over the series s any day. Only reason to ever consider moving on from this is when series X undergoes some huge price drops. Quick resume is janky and the Xbox support forums seem to be full of people complaining about issues on the series x.

Definitely better to stick with this and sit on the sidelines

Still rockin' mine. Love the damn thing lol Can't bring myself to make the jump yet. Love the 4K bluray drive for movies and many games. This thing is a back compat beast!. It's a great console imo

If you swap out the HDD with an SSD and repaste it with liquid metal it still stands up with the new ones. Fast and quiet. I put a 2TB 860 EVO in mine (plus liquid metal repaste) in 2019 and have been reaping the benefits ever since. No more external drives required and all my games load far faster than stock.

I have a PS5 and I don't find myself noticing a huge difference, it's mainly with loading times since it's SATA III on the 1X and much faster PCIe on the PS5, but the SSD upgrade does reduce load times massively on the 1X and even makes the UI more responsive.

I upgraded my Xbox One X to an SSD back in 2019, it was on sale for like $130 1TB SATA III SSD, not quite as fast as the SSDs on the newer consoles but pretty close in most games, that hard drive that came with it was thrown to the trash where it belongs!

Love mine !! I brought a cheap SSD 2TB drive, upgrade it..there is a script you run out there and makes the full 2 TB visible (minus OS), reinstall the OS and it feels snappier the Home Screen now. Some games to load up faster. Has optical disk so Xbox 360 are backwards compatible (the ones they are on the list). Awesome console !

I bought a Xbox One X yesterday, pré owned. I bought it to play Forza horizon 1, 2 and 3 disc versions. The hdd loading times don’t bother me. And forza horizon 1 looks amazing.

Sold mine and added a bit more money, and I got the series S (a second hand one). Best choice I’ve ever done.

Absolutely worth it, especially if you have a PS5 (like myself) already, resolution is the same or in some cases slightly higher than Series X and PS5, though they get higher framerates. Which I could care less about. If i want something next gen I'll get it on PS5, so far that has been pretty much nothing. RE4 remake is about it!! One X is a very powerful console, and these new console have just been out over 2 years. And nothing great on the horizon, imo. YET.

Combined with Game Pass Ultimate, every Xbox One turns into a next gen console, thanks to xCloud (cloud gaming). xCloud uses Series X hardware and allows you to play Series X|S exclusive titles. 🏆🗿
The reasons Microsoft doesn't talk about it, are obvious snd logical (to sell the newer systems and lessen their losses, as they sell each console with a loss or at least without profit), but the fact, that they made this possible, is very great and inclusive, even if it's for their own benefit.
