What I like to do is spend an hr. doing basics like fretboard memoriztion, triads and arpeggio's, then I pick a lesson that teaches a riff or lick. That way I feel like I accomplished something and it feeds my enthusiasm. Thanks for the great lessons Lee. I appreciate it.

Saw the lick video you referenced and that brought me to this one. My father taught me my first song on guitar back when I was so young my fingers wouldn't reach the A and low E strings. (In the early 1960's.) He bought me a chord book and I picked up a few songs he would play but never made a lot of progress over the years.
One day about 20 years ago I was playing and for some reason I asked myself, "This is a C. I know it is a C but what makes it a C." Found the answer and then kept asking these types of questions.
I started trying to solo a bit and the question was always what notes do I target. This is a great explanation on that. Thanks!
I really wish there had been something like YouTube videos way back then.
