Beginner Flipbook Tutorial:

About Me:
Welcome to my channel! In addition to making flipbooks, I am a stop-motion animator and have worked on movies like ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, Kubo and the Two Strings, Missing Link, and Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. I fell in love with animation as a kid and have been doing it ever since.

My wife and my girls are watching our story...on your channel. We are all in tears. Thank you so much for sharing our story with the world...when we couldn't. Salute.

man this is inspiring, just because you don’t have ‘good art skills’ doesn’t mean that will stop you from sharing your story, this was beautiful

Brought tears to my eyes.
It was indeed hundred times better that John made this flipbook himself, because it was so personal and touching. All the time and effort and emotions spent to make this flipbook are precious. Thank you for sharing this great story!

Can we appreciate how love gave him superpowers

Respect to John, while his art skills may be limited, he truly put his heart into it, and that's all that matters

WAH! John--thanks for making this flipbook and allowing Andy to share it with us. You have no idea how deeply you have affected countless people in a really special way. From the bottom of my heart--blessings on you and your family. 😍

First of all what got me smiling was how respectful and understanding the whole interaction has been between you both. After seeing how many artists/creators get very rude/hostile people when things don't go their way, this soothes my soul.

Second was to hear he decided to put in effort to make one himself. Which was at first unexpected, but also both incredibly sweet, wholesome, and inspiring.

And after watching the flip book. Just wow. It's very well made. I've always seen past "skill" to see the work, soul, fun, and creativity put in. As I'm an artist myself who knows I couldn't be where I am now if I never started & decided to keep learning. But never until now had seen one stick figure animation that made me tear up.

Best wishes to you and him. Thank you for sharing.

I cried. This is really inspiring, and I think the fact that you couldn't do it was the best turn of events. It really does make the flipbook and the story all the more precious.

John’s story is so touching, especially being an old-fashioned romantic myself. I’ve always been off and on when it came to art, but this really inspires me to make something for my family as well— the art we make with our hearts are always so precious and last longer than a lifetime.

You don’t always need to be super skilled to make art

This is so wholesome ♥️ I was on the verge of giving up on my dreams of telling stories but this lifted me. Thank you.

As C.S. Lewis said, always write your own love letters. It doesn't matter how "bad" they are. Everyone should do art, whether that's "bad" singing or "bad" poetry or "bad" painting. It's not about the skill, it's about the learning and the expression and how good such things are for you and for everyone around you. And the only way to get better at anything is to do it badly.

This actually brought an odd memory to my mind. If you want to hear it fully, keep reading. If you don’t have much time, skip to the end.
When I was 7 I saw the first flip book video of yours. It really inspired me to start making flip books which ended up getting my family and friends involved too. The creepy thing about that was one of my flip books (4 hours 200 cards give or take) was the life of a flower. The flip book ended up being a huge foreshadowing of what my life would be like.
To;dr I saw an Andymation video and made a flip book. The flip book being a foreshadowing of how my life would be. Still is odd to me.

Aww, that was beautiful. Something that you make for a loved one has more meaning than having someone else do it for sure. My mother always said she preferred having something I made. We all can go to the store and buy a gift but when it comes from the heart, the message is heard loud and clear.

That was actually so heart-touching. I loved how both helped the other out when the two were going through tough times. I loved it so much! (Also, the "Kamehameha Baby Transfer".) Thanks for sharing this, Andy!

Despite his lack of skill this is truly emotional. Even people like me get a tear in my eye. Give a massive shout out to him.

thank you for making this video! it was honestly so wholesome and ofc very inspiring to me. i’m an artist myself and i do know that feeling when people have so many things they want to convey creatively and just don’t have the confidence to or hesitate to pull it off themselves, so i hope this can reach a lot of people and inspire them to make something meaningful regardless :)
