ADHD and Intelligence

Many folks with ADHD walk around feeling like they're stupid and/or lazy. In fact, ADHD is NOT a marker of intelligence. Many folks that struggle with ADHD actually have higher than average IQs.

I’m 17 years old, dropped out of high school due to feeling dumb and unmotivated towards academics. I got myself a job at an oil change place due to my interest in cars. My life made a flip from feeling worthless to finding my purpose. I quickly excelled and became one of the better techs at my shop. I found out I have an insane ability to learn when hyper focused. It also comes with its highs and lows(bipolar) it seems. But when you start to figure out how exactly your brain works with adhd I found it as more of a blessing than a curse. Every rose and it’s share of thorns and while ADHD seems to have more thorns than others the rose at the end is brighter than the rest. A brain not fit for today’s times but when unleashed can get you further than others.

My advice to people with ADHD, try to find something you are passionate about, doesn't matter what it is, could be knitting. The beauty of having ADHD is the ability to hyperfocus, and you can turn knitting into a multi-million dollar company. We have an advantage when it comes to intelligence, we have a superpower that we need to learn how to train. In my experience meditation is the only thing that started to give me control to focus on one thing and execute it. Look at it this way, you are an intellectual mind trapped in a body that is very intellectual, so you have to find a way how to control your body. Keep challenging yourself, nonstop. Be curious, question everything you see, hear and experience. Please use science to justify your thoughts and how you look at the world. For ADHD it is very important to live a stress-free life, so we have to learn how to ignore the negativity in the world. Mental and physical health is crucial to our success.

I don’t identify as soon as this video started, and I respect other peoples individuality, but for me, it’s always been. I am way too smart for anyone around me that they feel stupid, not me. But I do lose things a lot, or rather, misplaced them.
