Point number two is huge! Be present in the workout...the recovery time is part of the set, not just down time.

My guy, you and Sean N. have the very best fitness content on this site. As a 40 year old who has spent WAY too much time doing the wrong things in the gym, I’m FINALLY seeing the results after following you two guys’ advice. Thank you!

90% of people in my gym go through the motions, they are not able to focus on the training for 60 min. Not to mention that very few people do pull ups, squats, deadlifts, benchpress with a decent technique and close to failure. Also it's great to feel a bit nervous before a lift and honestly hardly anybody feels that. Great video Mario, greetings from Madrid

The last one is very important. I have started doing compound movement 4 months ago: deadlift, overhead press, barbell squat, barbell row, etc. I have never felt stronger in my life.

Joining a boxing gym has improved my physique more than any individual gym experience. The group environment pushes me past and keeps me focused. Plus I'm learning a skill.

Excellent advice, as always. I use the timer on my phone and to log my workout. That’s it. ❤️💪🏋️‍♂️

The real reason people are not making progress it's because they're following the advice of Instagram "fitness influencers" instead of following the advice of people who REALLY know what they are talking about and tell you what you don't want but need to hear.
Thank you for your public service, Mario.

One thing that helped me improve, and focus better on my sets, was stop listening to music. I now focus on the set, the form, the weight, the mind to muscle connection and have great results that way.

I do listen to music while doing cardio, though.

Great point, GOTTA get mentally ready for each set. Even if you’re doing something with slightly higher reps. Great video!

The phone thing is 100% spot on. It's why I use a notebook and pen to log my progress rather than a phone. I do keep my phone on me, but it's only out and on when I record myself and then to view that recording. That is quite rare, perhaps 1 or 2 sets a week.

I see people sit on leg extension/curl machine for crazy lengths of time just brainlessly scrolling through social media. Not only is that selfish to other gym goers, but they have absolutely zero focus. Kicking up some weight without thought is not training.

While in the gym, your focus should be 100% on your training. Come on, you can definitely not look at your phone for an hour. Trust me.

Lovely video as always. If it isn’t too personal, Would love a video from you about how you went from being an IT professional to being a great fitness trainer and coach. I think there are a lot of people who are miserable sitting in the IT industry and really passionate about fitness like me. Your insights and guidance would mean the world. Hope you consider. Cheers!

Ah this is so important and not many YouTubers have put an emphasis on set up. My progress has sky rocketed since focusing on set up for the last year. Great content keep it up!

Wow! I think I must be the opposite of this! I watch YouTube videos etc whilst in the gym, will deliberately check and message back during my 3 minute breaks between sets.
I also do far more isolated movements than compound as I prefer them.
Ooophs!

Im guilty of watching my phone all the time. At work, home, always listening to podcasts, music or something on youtube. But when i'm in the gym or out running, I leave it at home or in the locker. Feels really good just being with your self and your training.

Tbh, I need to transfer that phone habit from my training to the everyday life.

Also, I recommend a physical notebook for logging. Buy a Moleskine that will last.
