Alrghty! Thanks Airfix. Like the Mk. VIII so much i'd scratch built one in 1/32 back in early 2000's using Warbirds resin conversion. So long before Tamiya's kit, think I had my first digital camera around then. So the small sharkmouth is early, later they painted the giant one right over it, and moved the eye up between the spinner and exhaust. But on some, the old eye still peeked out at the top of the new mouth. Of course had to have that on mine.

shark mouth on the aussie one is appropriate as a grey nurse is a reef shark

The RAAF 457 Nurse Squadron with the shark mouth colour scheme will be perfect on the 1/24 Spitfire Viii.

The Grey Nurse is a very striking scheme. 😍

To all those fed up with another Spitfire - it's not as if there are masses in 1:24. And you can't begrudge Airfix trying to get as much revenue back from the fairly hefty investment they made on tooling the Mk.IX. I for one would like to see a Griffon engined version next.

Not sure I can face building another Spitfire as I have done three of the MKIX kits. I would rather they had released the MKVIII first now

24th isn't my scale but I do love the VIII - it's got to be the best looking of all the Merlin spits. I'd love this in 72nd (built the ancient Frog kit VIII a while back as ZP-W).

I’ve had a bit of a think since the other day- whilst I don’t agree with those who are saying “not another Spitfire” I am wondering if this is the totality of Airfix’s big summer surprise. If it is then it’s not really in the same league as last year’s Sea King. That was totally out of the blue whereas a Mk.8 Spit has always been on the cards since they released the Mk.9. Also it’s only got 3 scheme options instead of the 4 that’s customary with the 1/24 releases. Don’t get me wrong, it looks like a lovely kit and the 3 options are all very cool but it just feels a bit flat. I’m not really after a new 1/48 Jaguar or Avro Manchester but something completely different would have been nice. That said I am in a bit of a dither about pre-ordering the Mk.8 or grabbing a Mk.9 before they all go. Airfix don’t make it easy for us do they?

I think they had to play safe considering the current state of hornby. maybe a desert scheme would have bean a welcome addition but they will be keeping within a price bracket and what a competitive price it is .ps still want a 1/48 jag 😂

Saw a video on yt earlier from Revell on some new releases from them and 1 of the releases is a 1/72 Tornado twin ironicly 1 of the 2 people in the video is Luke who used to work for i wonder did he leave because even he was sick of the amount of spitfires from them but couldn't challenge his supierors for fear of loosing his job so he got out while he yes im aware the 2 tornados are not new toolings but having said that their Tornado kits are regarded as being the best in 1/72 so new toolings are not needed.

To be honest how many more spitfires can the hobby take, there’s other modellers who like airliners and transport aircraft even a cross channel hover craft but all that seems to get churned out is more spitfires. Regardless of the mk it’s the same in my other two hobbies trains you get flying Scotsman s, buses routemasters for which I use to drive when I was based at Shepards bush S, I just think it would be nice if airfix do some airliners and transport models, sorry Gary mate just saying if I’m wrong then no doubt I’ll get a raspberry or two 😊😊
Cheers bud
