i was taught to be frugal growing up but there's a line between saving money and depriving your kids when you can afford more lol

What’s so fucked up about this is he probably doesn’t charge himself for leaving the frige open for more than 24 seconds

As someone who grew up in poverty, and sees a lot of my childhood in these clips, I'll say this: the key difference between these people and those actually struggling to get by is vanity. Just look at the water bottle thing: that's not about actually saving money, because like you said, there's actual cost effective ways to have filtered water. It's about making himself feel like he's doing something smart.

Being poor is an absolutely embarrassing, downright humiliating experience. I'm not saying you can't be impressed with yourself about what you think up with to scrape by, because you really have to get creative. But what I am saying is you would NOT catch my mom bragging to millions of strangers on TV about splitting food at restaurants. She wouldn't be happy to admit she couldn't feed her kids. This guy is making an active choice to deprive his kids of a comfortable life to inflate his own ego, and he's PROUD of it. That's gross!

lol he chose to have this family just to treat them like this. Do not make any excuses for this weird, sorry man. If he’s so cheap he shouldn’t have brought 6 kids into the world. Notice how he forces THEM to make bigger sacrifices than him and his stupid beer. See if any of his kids will be by his side on his death bed……cause I doubt it.

the fridge thing makes me feel so sad for those kids : ( controlling children's food (like only being able to use the fridge ONCE A DAY) like that can lead to serious mental health issues down the line. i hope they're all doing well

The worst thing about having them dig around in the vacuum bin was that the parents were making the kids do it without sticking their hands in that disgusting thing themselves. And going on about how the kids looovvee it, when the KIDS are saying it's so gross but they've become desensitised to it.

what irritates me about these people is them trying to reinvent the wheel when poor people have been out here figuring things out for centuries. why use the plastic bottles?? a glass of tap water is better than what he's doing. the nail polish is just beyond me. I've made butter like that, but I use a mason jar. I don't know how they're getting the butter out of a plastic bottle, and it's not that much cheaper, since you need to buy heavy cream to make it, and the liquid that separates is probably not getting reused in their house. if he actually cared about saving, he could be making his own beer, using reusable containers, he could even make his own water filter with activated charcoal that's way cheaper to maintain than a brita. it feels performative rather than logical.

The problem with him isn’t being “cheap” or frugal. It’s the fact he is a liar. He lies and tricks. Even at the restaurant the wife said “I want another plate” instead of being honest and upfront letting her know they’re all sharing.

I'm surprised he had kids considering how expensive looking after kids are. The amount of effort with the beer bottles is too much jesus...

This legit feels like abuse.. there’s way to be cheap and not sadistic

having multiple children while simultaneously calling yourself a cheapskate is an oxymoron. real cheapskates wouldn’t have kids they’re the most expensive things to have!!

Lmao nah I have a personal vendetta against this dude. And his wife. They're neglecting their kids mental well being, if not more, so THEY BOTH can save money. Supposedly, since he collects expensive beer and who knows how else they pamper themselves. But not the kids.

I just can't shake off the question of how many used condoms and sanitary products those poor kids encountered in this gas station vacuum container searching for this mysterious heirloom earring...

I gotta say, as someone who lives in an area where the tap water is unsafe to drink, I really hope the dad knows that.

Bro, you can get everything you need from the dollar store, you can be normal and cheap at the same time 💀

This is why I don't watch this show. Because it is never dig in the vacuum bin to go buy milk, eggs and bread. It is dig to go buy beer. Or rip off diners. Or get your nails done, but don't tip. And on top of that, half the things they do don't even save money. They cost more money than just doing it the regular way. Instead of taking up room in a diner, just take it to go, go to a park, and enjoy it there and then let the kids play. That is what I used to do when SNAP poor. I would make sandwiches and have chips and gallon water and cups and we would have a picnic and play. Kids loved it. And why from the hose? It it because it is the neighbors hose? Water from the hose costs the same as from the tap.

I have 4 siblings. Whenever we would go to McDonald's, my mom would order McDoubles and then split them into regular cheeseburgers. (My brother didn't like burgers or bread so he would get a McChicken just for the patty, so that's where we got extra bread from.) I didn't mind and I am actually proud of her ingenuity, but the difference was SHE WOULD DO THIS IN PRIVATE! She would do this in the car or when we got home. Love you, Mom!

I can't stress enough how dangerous it is to reuse single-use water bottles multiple times. and putting nail polish on the lid, which the children can easily put in their mouths can be unsafe. I hope they don't develop any health issues from this.

This isn't about a frugal man. This is about a man who wants total and absolute control over his family.

His parenting is so awful. I'm surprised the older kids even see him but maybe it's just for the younger ones. I doubt they'll still talk to them once they are all grown. Only opening the fridge ONCE a DAY. Crazy. Anxiety, eating disorders and so many other mental problems those kids can have.
