As someone with over 250 hours on their save file for this game, I highly recommend this to new comers and old fans alike!
For the new fans, there's no lore requirement going in.
For old fans, you'll love the references to the PS1 original.

beginner tips:
*do all side quests, each one unlocks a new NPC for the town which has a feature to better your digimon. Main story gates you anyways until have certain amount of recruits to advance.

*defeating wild digimon give better stat gains than training a the gym. The gym burns through "time" for the "day" which is only 20 min real time. Only use the gym until your digimon is rookie stage, then train in the field.

Patch in Japanese audio for the Europe/UK Nintendo Switch version damn it!
Every other region has dual audio.

And the opening song for this old game was changed. The Vita and PS4 versions use Eir Aoi's Accentier song.

Ive never watched Digimon anime or played games, IS IT okay If ilo start playing Digimon with this Next order, this Digimon game Looks Awesome im not Big Digimon fan But i know Two Digimon like Agumon and Leomon. Btw what's Better Way play this game IS IT ps4 or Nintendo switch? 🔥🔥
