Rugby Referee Analysis: Wayne Barnes was BAD! | Bristol Bears vs Sale Sharks Scrums

I have to start off by saying I actually think Wayne Barnes is a good ref, I might not always agree with his interpretations by usually he's very consistent and that is all you can ask of a ref.

However, he had a really bad game in the Bristol Bears vs Sale Sharks game where he was very inconsistent at scrum time. He also didn't award the dominating team at scrum time and there was a few questionable no calls that went against Sale Sharks, who was dominating most of the scrum but didn't get rewarded for their efforts.

Some of the blame should also go towards the AR who should've helped Wayne in the situation where he was on the opposite side of the scrum collapses.

After the game Alex Sanderson (Sale Sharks Director of Rugby) came out and was rightfully frustrated by some of Wayne's decisions regarding scrum time. After reviewing the game it was clear that Sale Sharks had reason to be angry at how the scrums were officiated, especially since they were clearly dominating most of the scrums.

How does a channel about rugby know so little about the laws of the game and how their applied? 1:09. The free kick is for pushing off the mark before the ball is put in. It’s the right call

Imagine the penalty count after TAS reffed the game. 68-79. total ball in play time: 0:8 seconds

Firstly, I congratulate you on getting a centre to watch 5mins worth of scrums 😂 I'd say on the whole your correct. I do have some sympathy for refs though as some missed infringements are on the far side so he's relying on the AR's who are notorious for saying very little...I think I even heard one time that they are marked down for talking to the ref, so if thats true, no wonder it's getting missed.

0:51 thats a good call or at worst reset to tell Sale to control the hit and Bristol to be able to take the hit.

but Sale need to be disciplined pre push

if the ball is available at a collapse at scrum time and there is no imminent risk of very serious injury play on is a great option.

grsss roots referees are literally advised this on the World Rugby online laws test. free for everyone btw

Your pathetic... Over analysis... The scrum is there to restart play not to allow the constant ambitions of coaches to win penalties.. materiality is a key facet of our game.. our game has ethos ..play the game not play the referee .. ball goes into scrum ..back row move, scrum have kicks or passes .. play rugby .. your site is anti rugby ..toxic ... Always seems the bad ... always ..

Wayne Barns is one of the most consistent refs in Rugby. You can always count on him to make the wrong call.
