The fact that DogDay called catnap his best friend forever but catnap thought that he lied is already sad, catnap is already misunderstood and DogDay didn't even tried to help him but abandoning catnap was the last straw and that's why catnap obeyed the prototype, because he lost hope.

It's heartbreaking to see an inseparable bond being shattered, as catnap becomes a worshipper of the prototype and dogday being kept prisoner, completely legless.

Ya know what would have been good? If the ending lyrics were: "Looks like you were right again. Right again. Right again. I can finally see that I was blind again." This line talking about how catnap realizes the prototype was the real one who lied to him, and catnap doesn't want to live with the guilt of killing (most of) the smiling critters. That's when he let the prototype kill him.
