Wow the ethnicity that represents the majority of US citizens was also a majority in a college in the US. What a surprise?!?!

The fact that the US still keeps track of students race is beyond me

If you look at the diversity of say a top university in Japan, the majority of students attending that university are going to be Japanese, because the majority of the population in Japan is Japanese. But of course there's nothing wrong with that...
Also no hate towards Japanese people here. Just using them as an example.

Dude, that "other group" is 74% of the US population. That's as diverse as its gonna get

Oh no! A university that’s in a country with a majority of one race has a majority of said race! How about we worry more about how high quality the attendees are, and not their race

We need college applications that don’t list race.. pick people on their merit.

It’s almost like the group with the most amount of people would have a larger presence in most things

how about people who deserve to be in Princeton, based solely on their academics, should go to Princeton

there’s a reason harvard and yale are in the supreme court for a lawsuit… and it’s not for lack of diversity.

Correction: The majority are NOT white/Caucasian. While they are the largest subgroup, they are still less than 50%. Based on population density, they are disproportionately underrepresented.
The most disproportionately represented group are Asian, which I don't have a problem with as they work the hardest.

Thats like going somewhere in japan and being surprised that there are a lot of Japanese people there

It’s only showing that about 35% of the students that attend the university are Caucasian. These are actually extremely good numbers considering Caucasians make up about 77% of the United States population. Princeton is a very diverse school, and quite honestly I would be surprised if the number of Caucasian students was less.

I can't be the only person who always thought it was really weird when we had to report our ethnicity on stuff like the SAT and college applications

Just stupid to putting people against each other’s, we are all related, and I believe you thinking totally wrong ✌️

It's so crazy that those numbers roughly match with the percentage of the total population in the us.

The comments here don’t account for the fact that the proportions of Princeton don’t reflect the rest of the population.

24% of the US population is Latin American/Hispanic, yet only account for 8% at Princeton. 13% is African American and that only becomes 9% at Princeton. But most shocking of all is the fact that Asian Americans make up 9% of the American population, and here are shown to be 25% of the 2026 class.

Yes, a majority white country is represented as a majority white institution. It’s minorities are not represented proportional to the population.

This isn’t a bad thing in and of itself, as we can expect mis representations in any given category. However, what we should be concerned about is that this occurs in higher education, which not only determines the future of the country but should in theory be as close of a representation as possible to population proportions.

I did the math and constituted that 35% is not a majority

The fact that schools keep track of races is disgusting

I grew up in a rural New England town and we had a diversity survey in the high school. We found out that we had 27% Scottish, 22% Irish 21% English, 18% French, 6% German, 3% Italian, 2% Polish and 1% Portuguese. We considered ourselves pretty diverse due to 22% had ancestors from countries that were along the Mediterranean coast. You should have seen the controversy erupt the year we had an exchange student from Norway.

In Australia every university is like 80% asians as that’s how the university makes money, costs international students 3 times the amount to pay for the exact same course that national students do. So asians always get in, as they are the largest source of international students.

So I guess that’s one way to do diversity
