I was born and raised in Guam, and all my family, friends as well as people I spoke to while living on the island were all happy remaining part of The U.S and being U.S Citizens...A lot of this gratitude comes from the fact the U.S rescued Guam during World War 2...If the U.S did not return to rescue the island, then the people of Guam would've all been exterminated by the Japanese Soldiers.

The Majority of the People in Guam would either like to remain as a U.S Territory or become a U.S Commonwealth, while a smaller number want Independence....Not sure how many people want Statehood since we feel we don't have a chance at Statehood because of our distance from the U.S Mainland and Guam's smaller landmass and population, but you just never know.

I have seen what has happened to the Former U.S Possessions that choose either Independence or Free Association, and you would think they've prospered, but in reality a lot of people from those places that choose Independence or Free Association are migrating to Guam, The Commonwealth of The Northern Mariana Islands, Hawaii and the U.S Mainland for a better quality of life and better opportunities.

So basically remaining with the U.S as either a Territory, Commonwealth or Statehood is the best options for Guam and The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands(CNMI) in my opinion.

Not a lot of people know how Guam became a US territory before the Treaty of Paris was signed. When US declared war on Spain, along with many islands that Spain possessed throughout the whole world, which includes Cuba, the Philippines, and Guam, US launched several attacks on Spanish territory. Two months after the war broke out, US fleet fired 13 cannon balls to Guam and people in officials in Guam thought the Americans were actually greeting, not attacking. Guam sent an formal message to Americans because their salue cannon wasn’t ready. Americans were surprised to find out that the news about war never reached Guam. Guam surrendered few days later and became a US territory.

Fun fact: when captain Glas sailed into apra harbor to take Guam from the Spanish he shot his cannons as a warning. The Spanish shot there cannons back thinking the American were saluting them. It was only when the Spanish boarded the ship to welcome them that they realized America and Spain were at war. The Spanish governor then handed the island over willfully and without incident.

Guam is best kept to itself. Once America’s influence wains you’ll begin to see a strong push towards Independence. Guam is America’s canary in the coal mine so to speak. With China’s rise so will be Guam’s prominence and importance to its colonizer.

Guam is not part of the United States, Guam is an Unincorporated US Colonial Possession (property) better known under the false name of Territory. Only part of the US Constitution applies to Guam. Commonwealth is a terrible option for the people. US Commonwealth status has resulted in nearly 50% of Puerto Rico's population being forced to live the American Dream in Poverty! The people of Guam must first believe in their own ability to self govern as a Sovereign and Independent Nation. The people of Guam are not North Americans, they are the Chamorro people native to the Mariana Islands. Statehood will only erase these people of their Identity, Heritage, Culture, Traditions, History and Customs. Hawaiian Statehood made Native Hawaiian's a minority in their own country. Today Hawaiian's can barely Speak, Read and Write in their own language. US Colonialism is Slavery, Free Guam! 🇬🇺
