Carbon buildup on backs of intake valves is the most common issue with direct injection engines. #shorts #shortvideo #shortfeed #youtubeshorts #humblemechanic

The combined way is the best, it has the advantages of direct injection and the cleaning action of port injection.

Direct injection: Slightly more power
Port injection: Significantly more reliability

Tip if you have a direct only engine - Get an oil catch can to save your intake valves. Over time the valves will get junk on top from PCV blow by. Since there is no fuel being blasted on them (this cleans them as well) they will get build up over time and can cause the valves to not seal properly.

Port injection > Direct injection in terms on maintenance and daily driver imo. I never ran direct injection on high performance applications only port injection so I can't say if they shine in that aspect or not.

When a vehicle that has both types of fuel injection it’s usually the port injections job to clean the oil off the back of the valves. And the direct injection part is for power and the system alternates between the two if equipped like the newer tacomas have..

My Mitsubishi 1.8L GDI is from 2001, it has over 240 000 km. Nevet had any problems with it, including whole direct injection system.
VAG from 2019.
Already needs repairs?

One of those super rad cars are the Lexus IS 350, Subaru BRZ, Toyoda GT86. Both have basically a Subaru engine with Toyoda D4-S. Volkswagen on the other hand thought that their engines are already overengineered as they are and given how lazy those Americans are regarding maintenance, they simply would sell more cars that way.
