Happy Sunday! Who has influenced and inspired you in the way you cook?

I am also a big fan of Nigella and Barefoot Contessa but you, my friend, are such a genuine sweet person, I love your videos so very much! Dude I don’t want to leave you out, you are the icing on the cake with spice and humor! Lol

You made an EXCELLENT point about what is available on food channels. I get so annoyed when food is made into a competition! Who needs a cupcake war? I want to learn, expand my repertoire- not watch culinary challenges. I’m a serious home cook - everything from scratch as much as possible. That is why I enjoy your videos - your honesty & expertise come through. I always want to build on what I’ve garnered from other cooks, tweak recipes, become more skilled with a knife - so thank you for doing what you do. Itadakimasu!

I started cooking when I was 8 years old. Small, easy stuff. As I got older, my mom let me do more and more. By high school, I would get dinner started, and mom would finish up, when she got home from work. I love Ina Garten, I like Ree Drummond ( the Pioneer Woman) her recipes are so down to earth, and it's easy to find the ingredients.

I could not see Nigelaa as being an influence on the Lum Cusine Empire. I alway found her recipes to be a cardiologists dream. Like you I have a load of cookbooks and use them to create my own "sub-recipes". One resource, although not incredibly creative, is the "Cook's Illustrated" series of books, compiled from the magazines. The local restaurant recipe books are a great resource. Thanks for the video.

I started watching your cooking show and I've slowly started buying the different sauces I need to cook like Flo. I"v always wanted to cook Chinese food but was intimidated. You make it look so easy and I confess I can't be bothered to do too many twist and turns. So one day I will report back to let you know how I did. I love the way that you are so laid back and Dude's "The Test" just cracks me up. I'm buying your cookbook a.s.a.p. Thank you for inspiring me and making me feel like I can.

First and foremost...you are at the top of my list. Otherwise, my mom gave me Betty Crocker’s cookbook and I still have it and use it. That was over 40 years ago. Mom was a fabulous home cook, so much of my cooking life rose from her. She also gave me The Joy Of Cooking cookbook, and I also have it dog eared and well worn. Great memories. Thanks for reminding me! Blessings, Jo

Get your hands on The Tasajara Bread Book. It's the best bread book out there. It's not huge, but don't let that fool you. It's so wonderful.

Great recommendations of cookbooks, I will try Burgoo for their soups. My favourites are Hot Thai Kitchen and Steamy Kitchen. They are both easy to follow, I have yet to add yours to my collections. I have purged so many books and only want to keep the ones I will use. Youtube videos like yours where everything is visual is better for me, it feels more personal. I think I started experimenting cooking different cuisines by reading and watching blogger/videos. We’ve come a long way with social media!

So, for me it was my mother and great grandmother who were my biggest inspirations. As for cookbooks, hands down Betty Crocker cookbooks are my fav. That said, many people inspire me to try new or different styles of cooking. You’re one of them. 😉

Thanks for sharing your cookbooks, which was very interesting. I totally agree with you about the Food Network "Competition" cooking shows, which I can only take so much of. I do really like The Pioneer Woman who has some great, down to earth, easy recipes, and also Alton Brown who is very educational.

Nigella, Ina and Jamie Oliver are some of my cooking heroes. I’ve been to Vij’s and loved it so much we brought back a huge shopping bag of food from his carry out to our AirBnB for a second round.

I learned to cook through Julia Child, Rick Bayless, and all the chefs on PBS in the 1970s-80s. They kindled my passion for cooking.

Love Nigella and the way she describes the food as she is cooking.
