Rising sea levels in coastal cities around the world, such as Venice and Jakarta, risk going under water in just a few decades. The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change predicts that water levels in coastal areas could rise 60 centimetre (24 inches) by 2100, even if global warming is kept to below two degrees Celsius (3.6 Fahrenheit). Nowhere is the impending disaster more evident than in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka.

But the world leaders seem to be blind to this silent catastrophe, it's we who must act to save our lives and property

Ok I Live In Bangladesh, Dhaka But It Happens Only During Rainy Seasons And For The Rain Because In Some Low Areas The Water Has Nowhere To Go, Not Because Water Is Coming From A Sea Or A River

Today, it will be Dhaka.
Tomorrow, it will be the rest of the world.

Its unfair that we poorer, developing nations pay the price for the First World emissions.

This city looks like it's a post global warming dystopia

This title is so misleading. First of all Dhaka is not a coastal city. It only happens in Dhaka during the Rainy season because of poor drainage system. Even the whole city doesn't go under water, only some roads get flooded.

People do realize that Bangladesh not flooding every year would be literally be unatural especially in the low lands

This news is totally misleading! I mean common, this is happening because of sea level rising?!!
Actually it’s the poor drainage system that's at fault and it only happens in the rainy season. And the whole city doesn’t sink, only a couple of roads.

According to the global sea level rise, a tiny island of Singapore is sinking too. They have plans to buy some Malaysian highlands, and evacuate the people there. Pray for Singapore!!!

We can't imagine what is going to happen. But thanks to South China Morning post for raising the facts to Bangladeshi.

I have got many relatives in Usa who couldnt even take to live for just a day in Dhaka! Flood, Mosquitos, oppression, corruption in government offices, biased evil local politics, greedy city mayors, coward media to express the truth to world, overpriced food and land area, below average social security are the very common issues we are getting used to day by day. Can you imagine having these in your country? Have been watching these issues since my childhood and still we are having load shedding for 2/3 times a day in our capital "city" and 7 times a day in outside of Dhaka city. What can you expect more?

I am from Dhaka, Bangladesh. And there is water logging here also in the areas where drainage systems are poor.

Dhaka, and Bangladesh as a whole, is facing huge economic crisis. Unemployment rate is beyond mention worthy, hunger is a common phenomenon, corruption at its peak, yet people care less about what will happen next
